If you're not familiar with ‘Robert's Rules of Order’, it is the established guide for conducting organized meetings. It's appropriate for formal and informal groups. It's a must-have guide for PTAs, church groups, volunteer organizations, just about any committee that is going to meet regularly to organize projects and fundraisers. We follow ‘Robert's Rules of Order’ at our Historical Society meetings.and, every now and then, a question comes up about the correct format of a motion or something similar. But we don’t have a reference book. Having this condensed Kindle edition available during meetings should make it easy to quickly look up a rule.In the introduction of the book is a brief story of Colonel Henry Martin Robert and why he created Robert's Rules of Order in 1876. This Kindle version is updated edition that covers questions that come up in today's committee groups about using email, videos and similar technology. Another bonus is the chapters discussing how to set up your organization and get it off to a good start and how to draft and adopt bylaws. If you ever decide to apply for non-profit status for your organization, you MUST have adopted bylaws.Other topics covered include: how to run a meeting, the correct way to format a motion, motions that are always out of order, appointing special committees, responsibilities of chairman and officers and a glossary of terms used in the book. This Robert’s rules quick start guide is ok to use as a reference. But, if you are looking for a more specific book you may want to move on from here and go with a more rule specific version of the Robert’s Rules.

Easy read and understandable

Most people don’t like board or committee meetings very much for several reasons. Among these reasons are they are boring, take too long, are unorganized, inefficient, focus on problems rather than solutions, etc.This little guide is excellent. It will help the following people immensely by making the most of your board meetings: those starting up an organization or business; those who run or chair a board or committee; those who participate on boards - whether for profit or non-profit. It’s also good for people (like me) who have started a church, a non-profit ministry, and been on various board’s for profit and non-profit organizations. It will remind you of how to effectively, efficiently, and legally run a board or committee meeting in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order.The helpful chapters in this book are as following: (1) Setting up [your organization] for success; (2) Building [writing] your Bylaws; (3) Making the Most of Your Meetings; (4) The Art of Motion; (5) Ways To Create Great Committees; (6) A Parliamentary Procedure Sample [i.e. How to conduct the business of the organization].Each chapter is brief - and focuses on the majors - not the minors of what you need to know and do in order to conduct an effective Board or Committee meeting. I highly recommend this great handbook as your go-to guide to start or brush up on how to have an effective Board for your organization.

This may be useful if you know zero about Robert's Rules. But in usage at meetings when issues on procedure have come up I haven't been able to find the solutions. Get a comprehensive book if you are the type to take it to meetings to help solve issues as they occur.
