Are there better instructions anywhere on how to assemble the model?

I do recall this model being somewhat challenging to put assemble. I am not aware of there being better instructions for its assembly. My advice to you is to simply be slow and careful as you proceed. I found myself having to put down the instructions, and using my imagination to make the parts fit together. The finished product is good, but getting there IS a hassle!

Assembly is not a problem but painting is. it says: "hand painted", does it require me to paint?

No, it’s painted when it comes. But I found it very difficult to put together. The instructions are very fine print and nor clear. Pieces were not cut to precision and many did not fit right. I never could get it to fit right and ended up throwing it away after nearly 8 hours of work. But, like I said, it comes painted just as you see the pictures.
