I've tried other much cheaper alternatives, only to be disappointed. If you just stick with the Hewlett-Packard cartridges you're way better off as far as headaches, quality, and having to waste your time doing returns. These suckers cost an arm and a leg, which to me is irritating as all get out, but I never have a single problem with HP. I bought my printer for $100, and to completely fill it with XL cartridges is almost $300! Unbelievably painful, but when you're printing high quality photos you're stuck with buying Hewlett-Packard.
