Understandable
This is book is perfect for learning grammar and punctuation -- as well as being a great review for people like me who need to brush up on those subjects. The way the explainations are written makes them easy to understand. This is an essential reference to have at home or in offices.

Mostly good
I think this book is better for those that have somewhat of a foundation in grammar and punctuation. It assumes a little knowledge of the basics, while glossing over them briefly in its definitions. The best example of this is the first section on finding nouns, verbs, and subjects. Helping verbs, linking verbs, participles, and gerunds are briefly described, even though they make up such a vital aspect of sentence construction. My personal opinion is that these could have been elaborated on a lot more, even to the point of having an entire section devoted them. Additionally, this book relies on memorizing rules, which is quite boring. Other grammar books teach in a much more conversational tone. I'm thinking of Barron's Painless Grammar, which teaches in a way that feels like a conversation; whereas, this one reads more like a rule book. Other than those minor quibbles, the book is great. Assuming one already had a foundation, I'd use it as a primer for college or the workplace, or as a refresher course. If you are trying to build a grammar foundation from scratch (like I was), I would look elsewhere. Four stars seems appropriate to this reviewer. That's just my opinion; it's not gospel.

Helpful read.
This book was recommended to me when I was asking a friend about writing and grammar suggestions, and she suggested this one. I'm glad to have found a copy, and appreciate the easy-to-read style and format used in the book. It's a great tool to brush up on grammar rules and refresh on some of the things I'd forgotten since my school days.

Good and insightful grammar book
This book makes learning and reviewing grammar easy. I bought it as a required textbook for a college class. It is physically large, but it’s a good book. Reading it helped me learn the difference between different grammar structures and increased my attention to detail.

Great starting point, but not as comprehensive as I would've liked!
I would rate the Blue Book four stars. While it contains a comprehensive set of rules, it lacks detailed explanations of said rules. Some of the quizzes also have questions that do not align with the provided rules (such as the absence of clarification on terms like 'most' and 'more' in the Subject-Verb Agreement section). Additionally, there is a lack of coverage on certain topics like possessives, plurals, and quiz-identifying clauses. Additionally, the organization could be improved by separating topics such as dangling modifiers, parallel structure, and wordiness into distinct sections rather than grouping them. (I understand many quizzes and blogs on the website, but much should have been covered in the book.) Moreover, the Blue Book could benefit from more interactive learning elements to engage users effectively. Including visual aids could enhance the learning experience and help solidify the understanding of complex grammar concepts. By incorporating a variety of learning modalities, the Blue Book could cater to a broader range of learners and make the study of grammar more engaging and practical.

If you're trying to brush up on your grammar or still in school trying to wrap your head around the in and outs of punctuation, I'd definitely recommend getting your hands on this book.

The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation is a comprehensive yet straightforward guide for anyone looking to improve their grammar and writing skills. As an English learner, I’ve found this book invaluable for sharpening my grammar and punctuation knowledge. What makes it stand out is its clear explanations and simple examples. Complex rules are broken down into easy-to-understand steps, and the examples make it practical for both beginners and advanced users. For instance, tricky topics like subject-verb agreement and comma placement are explained so well that they become second nature. The quizzes at the end of each chapter are another highlight, offering a great way to test your understanding and track progress. The book is concise and avoids overwhelming the reader with unnecessary jargon, making it perfect for both self-study and classroom use. If you’re looking for a reliable resource to write more confidently and accurately, The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation is worth every cent!

I like this grammar because it gives you many important hints: for instance, I found very interesting the chapter about the use of punctuation (Chapter 2). Honestly, in my opinion this book is useful to improve your English, not if you are going to begin an English grammar course, since it delves into some particular aspects of the English grammar.
