Great pain relief during labour
My wife used only this for pain relief during labour and she delivered our baby girl without needing an epidural. She used it for 4 hours without it running out of battery. We recommend the TENS machine strongly.

Did work for me but only to some extent
It was a pretty good option of pain relief for the early stage of my labour. Honestly I am not really sure if it worked or was just a distraction from the contractions, but anyway it did it’s job. Once contractions get more intense it will not do any miracles obviously. But giving 4 stars as it is easy to use and helped me through the early stage.

Highly recommend, must buy for first time mums
Cannot express enough how much this product was a life saver during labour, I was able to labour at home for the most part with this as my only pain relief and only go to hospital at the end stages for delivery.

I had one of these when I was pregnant, for some reason I sold it after my child was born. I've recently purchased a second one for non-pregnancy related pain relief as I believe this is the best one on the market for the price. Perks: 1. Can be used with two electrodes or four - meaning it's easy to treat small or larger areas. 2. Controls are straight forward, no need to lose hours reading the manual. 3. Excellent range of strengths, so you can build up or go as delicately as you need to. 4. Unit has a good deep belt clip so you can clip it onto clothing, or you can use the neck strap it comes with. 5. The electrodes are sticky enough to stick and stay without ripping out hair when you remove them. 6. Replacement packs of electrodes are easy and reasonably cheap too purchase. 7. It takes 2 AA batteries to work, but arrives with 4. You are good to go, and keep going - everything you need is included. 8. Excellent for frozen shoulders, back pain, hip pain etc as well as pregnancy/labor related discomfort. Cons: 1. You may need assistance placing electrodes in those harder to reach spots on your back.

I decided to purchase rather than rent a TENS machine because I'm suffering with pregnancy related sciatica and have used TENS for previous muscular injury rehab. The order was delivered super quickly and the product is very well packaged with clear instructions. It's great to have on hand to relieve sciatica symptoms and I'm hoping that it will prove to be a great buy for labour too based on the reviews I've read on amazon and elsewhere for this product. Very easy to operate and the handheld unit makes it really easy to continue moving around while using it.

I was induced with a hormone pessary as my waters had broken with no contractions. I honestly would not have survived the contractions and pain without this machine. I had taken paracetamol an hour after induction and wasn't able to have any stronger pain relief as there were no available beds on labour ward. As a result I had to manage the pain for 10 hours before a bed was available and I could get an epidural. For the 2 hours prior to getting an epidural I was given gas and air, but by this point I was so exhausted that I was unable to coordinate my breathing to gain any benefit from it. The Tens got me through every contraction alongside counterpressure applied by my husband. It is without doubt one of the best purchases I made throughout my pregnancy and I would recommend this to anyone who is planning on having a vaginal delivery (even if you want a water birth, as it is difficult to predict whether this will truly be possible). I have also continued to use this for lower back pain following the delivery which has been really helpful to aiding my recovery. In summary my advice is that this is worth every penny and if you are not keen on purchasing it, you can hire it on the babycare website.

I bought this because I was having a lot of anxiety about giving birth to my third baby. For babies one and two I used gas and air. Contractions are intense and can take over your body at times so I wanted something more to help me cope during the early stages of labour. I had convinced myself I would be asking for an epidural this time (as I had built up so much anxiety for the months before birth). I put the tens machine on about half an hour into contractions and immediately felt relief for every contraction using the boost button. I didn’t have that same fear of waiting for the next contraction as I found them more manageable. When I got to the hospital I was 5cm dilated and still found the contractions manageable using boost. I then had gas and air together with the tens machine and breathed through the rest of my contractions until I was ready to push. I didn’t find it beneficial for pushing stage! Not sure if this was because baby was big and back to back or because pushing is a different kind of pain/experience. It was attached to my back for about 5 hours total and never moved and batteries didn’t run out. One of my best purchases!

Those who prefer drugfree pain relief should consider this product. My wife used it when giving birth to my daughter because she preferred drug free birth (better for baby) and said it truly made a difference. The working principle is that stimulates the production of body morphines and in addition it has a distracting effect so that all in all it helps you through the difficult phases. The unit has plenty of option to change settings (big/low, duration, etc.) - I would say even a bit more than needed. Once you use it the only way the find out what works best for you is trying out several settings. The self adhesive electrode pads that come with it are of good quality: they are thick, stick easily and last long. We even removed them half-way to take a shower, and afterwards could put them back on withouth any issue. The unit comes with one set of pad, and two sets of batteries. I bought it with an extra set of pads just to be sure to have a spare available when needed, but due to the quality of the pads this was not necessary.
