Will this switch cut off if my pressure drops too low too keep my pump from burning up?

It has a low pressure cut on and a high pressure cut off. If it gets too low it will always be on until high pressure setting is reached. If the pressure never increases it will keep running.

Description says this is for an air pump. Is this correct?

I used this pressure switch to shut of a well pump connected to a bladder type surge tank. The bladder tank was precharged with air and when the water was running the pressure dropped turning on the pump. When the water was shut off the pump continued to run until the air pressure built up and shut the pump off.

I have a 3 hp 230v pump system. Schneider's retail catalog says the fyg series will run 3hp at 230v. you say 2hp. Would this work for me?

It will work fine. Amazon's description is incorrect. My pump is also 3hp at 230v. My first one of these switches lasted >3 years, so I replaced it with the same item.

can you increase the range to 55 - 75 psi?

Yes, it is adjustable not sure the max psi it will handle but 55 - 75 should be easily achievable.
