Solid Blu-Ray Writer
Although I might install this Blu-Ray Writer in my newly built desktop, I really bought it "just in case." I still have a number of burned Blu-Ray and DVD discs and many blanks, so I want to have a good optical drive available. I gave this drive a test run using a kit that allows it to be run externally. It performed beautifully. Quiet, responsive tray, easily read all of the written discs that I tried, and burned some data to an old DVD+RW disc without issues. Have yet to try burning a Blu-Ray disc but will soon when doing some archiving. So far I am very pleased with this drive. I hope it lasts as long as a similar Pioneer drive I bought 10 years ago.

Good blu ray writer, and for writing most dvds
This Pioneer drive has reliably written blu rays and most DVDs for months. The one interesting failure is for DL (double layer) DVDs of certain brands. My tests show that the brands that typically fail to write with this Pioneer drive, successfully write with a HP drive, so it's not that these blank disks are universally bad. However, switching to a different brand of DL DVDs resulted in success with this Pioneer drive. Why would this be? I have tried changing the write speed, but it makes no difference for the "bad" brands of blank disks. Unfortunately one must use different brands of drives with different brands of blank DL DVDs to have consistent writing success.

Good quality unit that reads DVDs that my other drives would not
Very easy to install, just unplug the old DVD drive and plug in this one. I have a bunch of DVDs made with a DVD recorder from Turner Classic Movies broadcasts and this drive can read some of them that my previous DVD drive couldn't. Of course it works fine with Blu Ray disks too. I haven't tried burning a Blu Ray with it yet.

Dead silence when using, creates only succesful burned disks
What can I say except GREAT burner, dead silence when burning, takes all disks I have tried and creates only perfect burned disks, this model does not work with UHD 4K reading or burning disks though
