HarperCollins My Favorite Berenstain Bears Stories: Learning to Read Box Set

Level 1 readers should be consonant vowel consonant words from the same word family. These are more like read alouds. Contractions, apostrophes and words like glorious, and aquarium. This was discouraging for my early reader.

Bought these for my 2 year old daughter who loved a couple of the original Berestein Bears books I dug up from when I was younger. These were great for her! The pages have enough words/story line to be engaging but not overwhelming. These are some of her favourite books now!

Good little set of books for the price. I wouldn't call these level one readers though. My daughter is in Kindergarten and can't read through one of these books entirely on her own. Several of the words she couldn't sound out on her own if she tried. But I read along with her and help her out. Although, they will grow with her as her vocabulary and reading skills expand. I can see her reading these well into the 2nd grade.

I bought these for my kindergartener to get into reading. They are a bit more challenging than entry level. I'm glad I bought a couple of options. I have no doubt he will be reading them soon, but definitely not a beginner book. maybe end of kindergarten beginning of 1st.
