Yes, it can be in direct sunlight. My clock is and it works fine.

Q: Can it handle high temps? I have lost 2 outdoor clocks to temps over 100 in the summer

So far is has performed well. Haven't lived through the summer with it yet. I understand, i've lost several clocks also.

Q: How does it do in direct sun?

Personally, I would not put in direct sun, but I live in Florida. BUT, our SECOND one just gave out after about a month of use. It was outside in a screened room, in the shade., never got it wet. Attempted to reach Seller but got no response. I do not plan to replace it with the same one.
