It's a convertible!
Size L fits as expected, and except for a strong chemical odor, the helmet appears satisfactory and well made.Instead of a conventional double-D ring chin strap, this helmet has a ratcheting clip at the end (like a hemostat lock) which is inserted into a toothed, spring-loaded locking mechanism. So instead of adjusting the fit every time you wear the helmet, the fit remains constant. I presume that you could loosen it a bit by not inserting the clip fully, but this is probably not advised. To remove the strap, you pull down the the easy-to-locate tab under your left ear and the clip jaw opens. The entire front of the helmet swivels up to create an open-face helmet. Pushing down on the small tab in the middle of the chin piece unlocks the faceshield. On my helmet, when closing the faceshield only when it is not being worn, the left side locking mechanism in the helmet is a tiny bit too far in to properly engage the stud on the faceshield without some wiggling. Even in a crash situation, I doubt this would make much difference based on how the helmet is designed. Most likely this situation will improve with use, since we are talking about 1mm of misalignment and the chinpiece material should eventually conform to the correct position.Between the faceshield and the helmet proper is a pull-down sunshade like that on a helicopter pilot helmet. The pulldown tab on the left top of the opened helmet is a bit small and hard to locate, and it would be nice (for me) if the sunshade came down a a tiny bit lower, but then it might interfere with glasses, large noses, etc. That having been said, it's a great idea especially for those late afternoon rides into the setting sun. The sunshade is exactly the darkness that I would choose for it.Another excellent feature of this helmet is the removable liner with snaps in the back to hold it in the proper position. If you've ever worn a helmet in hot weather, you probably realize how nice it is to be able to wash the liner. Not having worn it riding, and since my bike has a windshield, I can only speculate on the helmet's aerodynamic qualities, but based on fit and appearance it should perform well either open or closed, without a lot of grabbing when you turn your head, unless you look almost straight up. Small fixed air vents in front and back of the helmet presumably help vent moisture and minimize fogging while riding.I bought this primarily as a winter helmet, since the cold dry Arizona air really hurts my nose & eyes even with a windshield. Back east I wore helmets with flip-up faceshields or bubble-shields, and without a windshield the flip-ups would catch the wind and flip up if you looked up, and the bubble shields would twist your helmet if you turned your head sideways, so I wanted to stay away from those options. While I'm not a big fan of full-face helmets, the modular idea appealed to me. While it probably provides less protection for your face if you crash, a helmet with a faceshield that locks in place, provides additional crash protection, AND can be easily moved out of the way seems like a winning idea... especially if you throw in the added utility of the sunshade.

Nice helmet for the price!
This helmet is better than i expected. I've never had a full face helmet so I don't know what to compare it to. I've read a few complaints on this helmet such as smell, the way it fits, scratches easy and didn't come with a box. That wasn't my experience at all. I measured my head like your supposed to and the helmet fit perfectly, no bad smell either. The color & finish are nice and it came in a box and helmet bag. I reallylike the quick release strap. I ride a mini motorcycle and it should be perfect for me.

the construction seems pretty solid like any other name brand full face helmet
This is my first ever modular helmet, so I can't really compare it to others. I have had plenty of other full face helmets though. For the price, the construction seems pretty solid like any other name brand full face helmet. Some reviewers had mentioned a plastic like smell when riding with the helmet, but I have not noticed it and have ridden with it 3 times now. What I do notice is a slight wind/whistle sound that occurs if I look slightly downward. I think this may be due to the design of the chin or overhead vents. Speaking of the chin vents, I do not see a way to close it off unfortunately. Every other helmet I've owned has had a button or switch to open and close the chin vents, thus why I knocked a star off the review. The two visors on this helmet are awesome. I do like the fact that the tinted visor can be retracted, but the clarity of the visor isn't on par with the clear visor. There is a very slight haziness to it, but nothing that will affect my riding or vision. One huge plus I love is the fact that I can wear glasses with my helmet comfortably. Most helmets put too much pressure on my glasses and mashed them against my face. These were designed to put zero pressure on your head if you wear glasses, and that's awesome.Overall I'm quite happy with the helmet and would buy another ILM in the future.

Nice helmet
Seems very durable construction. Fit perfectly just as sizing chart said. Ventilation system is awesome. You can hear the airflow. Great value for the money. The inside lens fogged up but after some anti fog applied it's crystal clear when down. Recommend to all, it's a 3/4 helmet and a full face in one.

Decent for the money
This helmet is ok for the price you pay. But it’s cheap. Cheap in price and cheap in manufacturing. The front chin bar is very close, too close in fact for me. My chin rides, very uncomfortably I might add, on the front chin bar, and in order to push the release button I have to squeeze my thumb between my chin and the bar. It’s kind of a pain in the rear. I put it on the shelf to let people use if they need one.
