Vibrant Colors, Easy Cleanup
Colors are vibrant. Love that this is easy to clean with water. My 7-year-old loves them!

Versatile and affordable.
These oil pastels are versatile as they can be applied in multiple ways with pleasing effects. The pastel can be applied and blended with a blending tool or finger. The surface can be scratched to create more texture. The pastels can also be used with water. A slight application of water over the material with a brush spreads the color easily enough. This is an affordable product that has many uses on its own or with other media. Works well on canvas, paper, wood and fabric.

Skip the water and they're great.
I updated my review from 3 to 4 stars because after playing with these for a while, I have decided they are okay in terms of water solubility. The trick is in using a stiffer brush made more for crafting or acrylics, with a little resistance to it when you bend down the bristles. Using a soft brush like a watercolor brush (which I was using) just makes an annoying mess. Also using a paper with a little texture to it - like a cold press paper verses hot press or a vellum smooth surface - really helps to add to the...friction?...necessary to use these as water soluble pastels.***Okay, for the price, these are excellent oil pastels. Especially for kids. Great pigment load. Very smooth lay down. That being said, these barely qualify as water-soluble. Maybe I got a bad batch. Blending them out with water, solubilizing with water, is a freaking headache. There's really no point. They don't like water. They are not friends with water. Water should not even be mentioned in the marketing. They WILL solubilize, you just have to scrub and make a complete mess in order for them to do so. If you want a watercolor crayon, get the one buy faber castell. Or for artist grade, get the one by Lyra. More expensive, yes. But they actually blend out with water without making you want to throw the pastel across the room.In addition. The packaging. π Its pointless. Awful. Disgusting. Worst I've ever seen from crayola. The box slides out of its sleeve and there's nothing to keep the pastels inside. I had pastels all over the bottom of my shipping box. Annoying. And I was missing three pastels. Good thing I bought 3 sets. I figure for $4 a box, if they totally suck, my son will still enjoy them. So the extra sets made up for the missing pastels. And the cheap price convinced me not to return them.Negatives aside. Treat them like non-water soluble oil pastel for kids to play with and they're great. Practically glide across the paper.

This wonderful oil pastels seem to have a distributor who cannot count. Ordered 7 boxes, 4 of them had just 9 pastels in them, one had 10. Also some of them looked like they were used, smeary. Returning all of them, even though the quality of the pastel is great. If you still want to buy them and accept a certain loss of quantity, go ahead, they are lovely, soft and water soluble. Do not use your best paint brush, it will ruin it.

Beautiful and Vibrant Colors
These oil pastels are fantastic. They produce some beautiful bold colors. Blending is super easy with just a finger. They can be blended with water also which I love to do on watercolor paper using a painting brush. Now I wish I would have gotten the 24 pack because I love these so much.

Good but also bad.
I thought that these would be high-quality pastels for an inexpensive price, but I was wrong. If you want to blend with these then that does not work! They have a really bad smell and are not very water-soluble which I was very upset about. The colors are the colors that you would use every day. When trying to blend, it just turns into such an ugly color! Overall, I would not really recommend.
