Q: Does it only cut at a 45 degree angle, or does it cut 90 degrees also?

My experience is that it does not cut at 45 degrees, but probably 38 degrees (I didn’t measure it but it certainly was not 45). This device has only one cutting angle. There is a similar pink plastic cutter from China that is designed to cut at both 45 and 90 degree using standard box cutter blades. It’s available on Amazon ( I was tempted to purchase it but didn’t want to wait the extended shipping time).

Q: Does this only cut corners or can it be used for straight edges? Will it do the whole mat, not just the corners?

The tool can be used for the entire matting, but it will not turn corners. The framer must completely turn the mat to cut the next edge.

Q: First time using your mat cutter. How do I get the blade into position? It arrived raised, and I think stuck.

You have to turn the small gray dial to raise or lower the blade. Once the blade is in the lower position, press down on the big gray dial to actually push the blade out into your mat board.
