Not sure but the clip is only on the 1 side

Q: is the thumb stud removable?

Absolutely, if you're willing to do whatever it takes to remove it permanently. It won't just screw off like some studs. I recommend leaving it on, otherwise it would be difficult to open the knife. Most of the blade is covered by the handle when closed.
