I talked with an associate at a brick and mortar store recently who owned a similar hat and raved about it. It was blazing hot and sunny that day and I had a ton of yard work to accomplish. Our conversation put me on a hunt to find a hat like hers. I found one even better (for me). This hat is not only UPF 50 plus and will keep the sun off of my face and out of my eyes, but it is also stylish if that sort of thing is important to you. It is to me. I could have gotten a similar hat, in a more simple color and style, but this is the one that is most like me. It fits well, is adjustable in case my head shrinks or gets bigger ;), and while it is nearly perfect as-is, I plan to make a couple of very minor modifications to take it up a notch (ymmv). I plan to put a small piece of elastic in between the velcro and where it attaches to the hat as sort of comfy gripper. I'm also going to attach a strap of sorts to the inner hat band so that when the wind blows it won't blow away. These modifications are very personal choices and aren't necessary for the utility of it. The hat is outstanding as-is and can be used for much more than a gardening hat by anyone. It would be terrific around town, or on vacation and I plan to use it for just that next year.This is a well-made and lovely hat that is not to be passed up! With all the color choices, there is one to fit almost anyone's taste.

Used this on vacation and it was perfect. Brim not too wide or big.

This hat is cute and is generous enough for my big old head (most of these types of hats are just a little too tight). The only downside to the hat is that it doesn't provide shade for the back of your neck, but that's a small sacrifice for having something that isn't hideous that fits my head.

I bought this hat to wear while working in my garden while still being able to keep my thick curly hair out of the way in a top bun. Works great! Except....the hat is just to pretty to get all dirty and sweaty in the garden. The colors and pattern is very bold striking. The hat itself is tightly woven and very sturdy. I immediately retired the hat from gardening and now it's just my pretty hat that very quickly rolls up and gets carried around in my bag to use whenever I'm out and want some relief from the sun. I love this hat so much I bought another one as a backup just in case I wear out the first one.

I wanted a hat to accommodate a messy bun or high ponytail. This hat by the San Diego Hat Company met all expectations and then some. It's brim is wide enough to protect my face from the sun, while the velcro strip at back is long enough to go around my head, thick hair and all and close securely. Basically, I love it!Update: Brought it with me on a 3 -wk hike in Spain and another hike in Greece. This saved me from getting my face and neck sunburnt. I could roll it up into the side pocket of my backpack too. And yes, I'll buy from this brand again. Can't recommend it enough.
