No it won't. Try a microplane with whole nutmeg, works great.

How easy is this to refill?

I haven’t refilled it yet since it came completely filled with peppercorns. There is a screw -open cap at the bottom near the “ thumbprints” where you grind the peppercorns. It looks fairly easy to refill. A nice feature is there are five different grinds, from very fine to extra coarse.

It says hand wash. Can I immerse the whole thing in water?

I hand wash mine a couple times a year without any issues.
