So happy to have found this book!
I've struggled with weight my entire adult life. Tried almost every "diet" there is, low carb, body type, each "for life" book title... Then tried to just eat "healthy" - no fake sugars, no processed sugar, used maple syrup and honey instead, tried to avoid processed foods, not so successfully. Ended up at my highest weight ever and just so confused about what to do with myself. The one diet that worked best for me along the way was the "6 Week Body Makeover" (6WBMO), and I kept trying to get going on that again, but food prep was difficult to keep up with. Plus, there are many foods that are just not allowed, and if I "messed up" on the plan, my weight would spike back up and the week would be "wasted" as far as weight loss. Lots of stinking thinking, self sabotage, but I really just felt lost. I didn't know what direction to go in. My health was deteriorating from weight gain and inactivity, and I just generally felt horrible.I started doing some research on specific symptoms that I was experiencing, and came across the term "insulin resistance", along with "syndrome x". I read in some forums what was working for people, and came across this book. In reading the book, I discovered why the 6WBMO had worked so well for me - it followed the principles in the book! Carb servings were always below 30 grams, and balanced with at least 14 grams of protein. As I read, and began to put the link and balance technique into practice, I felt like I finally had a life-long strategy that would get me back on track with my weight and especially my health. I know now to never eat carbs alone as my body just can't handle the insulin roller coaster it causes, but I CAN eat carbs! In moderation, and balanced with protein. I believe that the reason my "cheats" were so damaging when doing 6WBMO is because I was eating unbalanced carbs, and in larger amounts than my body could process, and the resulting insulin spike made my body hold on to those calories, causing the immediate weight gain that was so frustrating to my dieting efforts.I'm now using MyFitnessPal.com to track my calories and nutrition balance, while employing the methods described in "The Insulin Resistance Diet". I'm not starving myself, am exercising moderately, and though the weight isn't melting off, I feel GREAT and the weight is coming off slowly. I'm eating dairy foods that I always thought I had to give up, I eat sweet treats now and then, I eat nuts, which I LOVE, but every diet I ever tried told me to give up, and I can always go out to eat and find something on the menu that will work for me. I just have to plan a little and check the carb / protein ratios. At this point, just not GAINING weight is a big win, but to be losing while eating like this is truly liberating.I highly recommend "The Insulin Resistance Diet" book for anyone who gains weight, even though they feel they "don't eat that much", has "carb cravings" (which are now gone for me), or just has tried everything without success and is looking for a long-term eating plan, not another "diet".

My calling?
After years of struggling with my weight, doing countless diets, restricting calories, eating nothing but fat free this or low fat that, I STILL had trouble with my weight! Going to the gym 4-5 days a week, eating according to my workouts/body, I was losing around 3-5 pounds a month, if I was lucky, some months id lose nothing at all or worse gain! After 10 months of hard word I was about 10 lbs shy of my goal weight. (Went from 165 pounds to 145) Due to school and work my workouts had to change drastically, I reduced my gym time to about 40min every other day. Within 3 months I had gained 24 lbs... Went from a lose size 8 to a tight 10. That was the last straw you can only imagine my anger that I was worse off than when I started! I went to countless doctors stressing that something was wrong. My hair was falling out, I was always tired, I was gaining weight uncontrollably, and was feeling rather moody and depressed. This had been going on for some time now (past 5 years or so) After all the tests came back negative according to their labs, doctors started telling me it's all in my head and I should seek a psychiatrist... WHAT?!Of course I did not listen to them, instead went to see a good nutritionist who suspected I had some type of metabolic problem, maybe pcos, but her guess what some type of insulin resistance. She rather quickly explained what that is and what I should do within 30 minutes and told me to come back 3 weeks from that day. Three weeks later I walked into her office 6 pounds lighter. And I was doing this diet loosely! Back then I had no idea about 15g carb to 7g protein. The following month I did not stick with the diet at all and gained 8 pounds back. I was soooo embarrassed I didn't go to my appointment. Instead I bought this book on amazon to educate myself more. I have a strong feeling my misery is over. This diet is so easy to follow, but of course weight loss doesn't just happen, you have to put in the work! You stil have to make healthy choices and still work out. It's now day three that I am on this diet and I feel amazing. In the past it would take me a week of hard work to lose a pound. I have lost a pound in two days. It might sound crazy but it's true. The very next day I told my friend about this diet and she's giving it a go as well. Her doctor once suspected she had PCOS but due to insurance complications she couldn't get future treatment. So I am hoping this book helps both of us out!
