E-Trike Conversion Gone Bad <Updated>
I purchased this to convert a folding adult tricycle. I feel the conversion went well despite very poorly written instructions and almost useless illustrations in those instructions. The kit does not include a charger or any batteries. The kit does not include any battery connections except for two short leads coming off of the motor controller. Be prepared to design, fabricate and install all of the battery connections to link the 3, 12 VDC SLA batteries together (to provide 36 VDC) and then to connect those batteries to the motor controller and to the charger. I chose to do this using soldered connections to assure a safe and efficient connection. Heat shrink tubing covers all connections. (see photos). The battery bag is way too large. It could easily accommodate 6 batteries. I suppose that a series/parallel configuration of 6,12 VDC SLA batteries could be made to double the capacity, but I chose not to.The OEM front tire was too narrow for the supplied E-Bike wheel, so I had to buy a new one. The motor/wheel is significantly wider than the OEM wheel. That also meant that the fender was useless until it can be modified and reinstalled. The OEM wheel also had a drum brake. The motor/wheel has provisions for mounting a disc brake (a ring of bolts on the left side of the hub) but no mount or caliper is provided. The trike has a coaster brake for both rear wheels. I plan to buy and install a front wheel caliper mount, caliper, and disc soon. NOTE: 2 brake levers are supplied with the E-Bike kit. These contain switches that if properly connected to the motor controller and to the brake set will shut the motor off during braking. My conversion does not have this function yet. Reverse pedaling to activate the coaster brake does not shut off the motor. The rider must release the thumb throttle while braking.I carried a hand held GPS with me on a series of test rides. Max Speed 16.5 mph. I do not recommend travel over 10 mph due to stability concerns with any narrow tire trike. I rode 3.36 miles at 7 to 10 mph and went from full charge to 1/3 charge. Recharge time was 2 hours.BTW - the product title is a typo. It should read "AW Electric Bicycle Front Wheel Kit For 20 inch; X 1.95 inch;-2.5inch; Tire E-Bike; The 16.5 inch; frame reference may be to a small bike that uses a 20 inch; front wheel. Note that this use of language is consistent with that found in the product documentation.UPDATE: On 10/24/2018 the conversion stopped working. Batteries are fully charged. Connections are good. Battery low light flashes dimly when power switch is depressed. Motor does not respond to throttle lever. I informed AWInternational of this problem. They informed me that it is out of warranty. I offered to buy a replacement controller. AWI said they would inform the manufacturer. That was yesterday, 10/25. I don't think that I have put a 100 miles since I bought this unit in January 2018. I am not pleased. I have reduced my rating to 2 stars as a result awaiting word from the manufacturer.Update number 2 - 12/24/18 - still no word from AWInternational or the OEM of the kit. I have reduced the rating to 1 star.Update 3AWInternational FINALLY agreed to sell me a new motor controller for $50. I have not installed it yet but will do so soon to report the results.Be advised that AWInternational does not manufacture this kit. Instead, they sell it for the Original Equipment Manufacturer. AWInternational had to obtain and ship the replacement part from the OEM to satisfy my request.

Great replacement for my old Wilderness Mountain 500 Watt Kit.
I bought this kit to replace my old 500Watt brushed hub-motor on my Giant Revive. I have my wife’s revive sitting next to/behind mine (in the uploaded picture) and you can see the Hub-Motor is about the same size. The rim was “True” out of the box and the wheel fits well, I had to open my front fork a little over 6 Millimeters to seat the wheel get the anti-spin guides in place. I wish the kit came with some rim tape for the spoke heads. Before using this wheel make sure you invest in a roll of heavy duty wheel/rim tape, it ships with no tape at all. The spokes are a little sharp and will push through most thin rubber tape (I learned this the hard way... Flat after about three miles of riding). While the wheel is much lighter than my old 500 watt, it is about the same size and has about the same and maybe a little more power. I am a 6'2" 330lb guy and this wheel pulls me nicely at about (you need to pedal to start up unlike a brushed motor) 17mph without pedaling. And with pedaling, I can easily maintain a 20-23mph ride around Sterling and down the W&OD trail outside of DC. I have an 80psi Kevlar-Ribbed tire and inflating to the full 80psi did not cause any issues with the rim or it’s true. The Paperwork that comes with the ebike kit says it is manufactured by CNEBikes in Changzhou city ,Jiangsu ,China. I contacted the vendor “AWInternational” to see if they sold a Pedal Sensor or the advanced computer. They do not, they are strictly a reseller of products and not experienced e-bike products and have no way of contacting the manufacturer (you will have to do that on your own if you want anything besides the basic 2016 kit)Aside from the reseller, I am very happy with the kit, the product it would be better with a pedal assist sensor (this is in the 2017 kits from CNEBikes).

Wifey loves it......
Wifey saw the neighbors ebike and was convinced her 10 year old Port-O-Trike by Workman (20") needed to be replaced or upgraded to an eTrike. Well this kit did the trick and saved my bacon. The only tricky part was that the 2 washers didn't fit between the fork and the wheel axle, but one did on the wire side of the wheel and that was enough, since the inside of the axle is fatter than the treaded part. I replaced the manual handbrake with the one in the kit, works great. By the way if the ehandbrake is connected and engaged (accidentally), the motor will not turn.

Made a power scooter
We bought this to convert an off-road scooter into electric so we weren't limited on 95% downhill terrain. My husband is pretty educated with road bikes assembly and parts, but this was a little different and he ended up having to take the wheel and tire into a bike shop because it wouldn't seem to fit although our tire was within the specs. The bike shop managed to make it work and recommended we tape the wheel as well. Getting to back onto the scooter was a bit of a hassle too and involved some major adjustments to the brakes and needing a second person to get the wheel onto the forks (not to mention we put it on backwards the first time...make sure the cords are coming out of the RIGHT side of the wheel). But now with everything assembled, it works great and we just ordered a second one for our other scooter. I purchased a 36V 12.5ah battery off eBay and it works great for both of us (hubby is just under 150 lbs so we're not super heavy) although on really steep hills, it did struggle a bit, but held a consistent speed on flat ground and lasted a really long time while we were trying to drain it (going to guess around 18 miles). Overall very pleased.
