Great Product and Great Installation Experience
Great Product and Great Installation Experience.Bought this 16ch Security DVR box from Amazon to replace another brand I bought ~ 10 years ago. This is a no brand name (101 AV inc.) but so far its great.Within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box, and hooking up my 8 old cameras, it was working. I could see all cameras working and the pictures were so much more clear than before.I did not even have to read the manual to get it working. Good thing, the printing was very small. Not for old folks. The user interface is way better than my old system. I used the included mouse to log in to make some set up changes.A little confusion occurred when I changed the password. It asked me to do something with "GUID." I called tech support which was just a few miles from me in Silicon Valley. Great people. Very good English. Think they were Taiwanese or Chinese which is great. I've worked in those countries and I love the people there.Roger in tech support told me to ignore the GUID stuff. Very happy to do that. Then I set it up on my home network. Gave it the IP address of my old system. No problems.Set the system to record only when they detect motion. Alternative is to have full time recording. Then I went to my laptop, and typed in the IP address into a browser. But I got nothing. Roger at tech support said to only use Internet Explorer. Chrome and Firefox would not work due to security issues and probably not allowing the plug in to run. With IE running and the IP typed in where you type in URLs, it installed a plug in and I could see the 8 cameras working perfectly.Very simple. There is also a CD which contains software so you don't need to use IE. I may look at that someday. But it was not needed to get things working. Then I wanted to see the cameras on my iPhone. Could not do this with the old system.Took a few minutes to load the app called Guarding Vision. The manual tells you about that. Typed in a few things, pointed my iPhone at the model / serial label on the bottom of the box. Had to create another password. Then I could see my cameras on my iPhone.Since this all went so fast I thought I would explore the user interface. Actually it is very good. Its very well organized and easy to move around with the mouse.I looked at some recorded video and was able to see myself walking in front of the cameras a bit earlier. This was fairly easy and smooth. So this is a great product, and I think the company must be pretty good.I had looked at the Samsung branded box but there were complaints about installation and user interface and reliability. So I went with this box. Very happy so far.

Great system. Fantastic customer service
Several years ago I bought a 16 camera DVR and 13 cameras to use with it from Backstreet. Their customer service was very good and had excellent tech support. I was able to see the cameras anywhere using my phone. Cameras would occasionally go bad and I would buy replacements as needed. Then suddenly I was unable to get new cameras for that system. The new HD systems had arrived. So I upgraded and bought a whole new system at great expense and put all my old cameras in a box. A couple of those old cameras were very expensive and very good but would not work on the new system. Fast forward a few more years and I had a camera go bad and wanted to order a new one. They had stopped making those cameras and I would need to buy another entire new system. Not only that, I was no longer able to get the DVR to communicate with the internet and could not see the pictures with my phone. Their customer service tried very hard but they were unable to get it to work. I stewed for about a year. The DVR was still recording but I could only see the pictures if I hooked up a monitor to it directly. It was not communicating with my modem. My techie son came to my rescue and sent me Amazon links to this DVR and a similar one. I chose this one because of the stateside customer support and the reviews. This system takes all my cameras. The old ones and the very old ones. I love it. I can now use those very expensive cameras that have been gathering dust in my garage. The unit arrived on Friday afternoon. I made a call to tech support about 10 minutes before closing time that Friday and they answered on the first ring. I kept it short because I knew it was close to closing time for them but I was amazed they answered at all. I was able to follow the directions and get things hooked up over the weekend. I called them on Monday morning to get a couple of questions answered and, again, first ring. And the tech guy knew what he was doing. Answered all my questions. I would give this DVR and the people supporting it 6 stars if it were possible

Two years later
It's been nearly two years with this DVR so I can definitely give a very accurate assessment of this product.First of all.... I absolutely implore you to purchase this product because of the customer support. I am telling you with absolute certainty this is the best customer support experience you will ever have with any DVR company or even security camera company. I know this because I own multiple properties with various DVR systems and installation companies. One 1-31-2021 - Sunday morning. I called for support. A nice lady answered the phone who forwarded me to an equally as nice support rep named James. Grasp what I just wrote.... it was Sunday morning. They explicitly state their hours of operation and that does not include Sunday morning. They still answered. They still eagerely went to help. He had no idea if I purchased this product 10 years ago or yesterday. All James wanted to do was help me right away. And help me he did. The problem ended up being a harddrive that I had placed in there from another DVR. The DVR was perfect. This wasnt the first time I contacted them for support. Admittedly, I was confused when I first purchased the DVR system years ago. And whoever helped me then was equally as nice and helpful. I had called again a couple more times since. Once was because I lose my password. Their solution was to instantly help me.I know you probably want to hear about the DVR but the support has been more important than any other element or feature of this great device. If you are at all confused on what machine you should get. I am telling you... get something from this company. Doesnt have to be this specific DVR but just get it from this company and you can not go wrong. Trust me, take it to the bank, you can vet my other reviews; just do yourself a huge favor and buy from these guys.As for the DVR itself, it is feature rich and easy to use. I will come back to edit this portion (I just had to jump here for the support review first).
