KA-GL Mahogany Guitarlele

Tuned same as a guitar this plays and sounds like a Spanish flamenco guitar but not quite as loud. The smaller size is great for people with small hands. The build quality is first class with kerfed strips holding the front, back and sides together. The interior bracing is of the high quality found in handmade spanish guitars. The intonation is accurate and the action is light. Guitar players can easily switch to this instrument. Ukulele players will have to learn the guitar chords. This instrument can be tuned to a higher key like a requinto but the action will not be as light if it is. Conclusion: first class all the way around.

I played a Kala guitalele about a year ago at a music store and fell in love with it. Waited a year until I was ready to make the purchase but it was gone of course. Kala has since discontinued making the model I played and the only one left is this one. Knowing that Kala is supposed to be one of the better brands I went ahead and ordered it. I was so excited when the guitalele arrived and then so dissapointed after playing it and realizing I had to return it. I played it for hours hoping that it would start to sound the way the one in the store had. But halfway through every song I had to stop and re-tune it. Upon closer inspection I could see faded blotches in the finish on the face of the instrument and a lack of detail in craftsmanship in various other places. Hopefully the seller will have this instrument repaired before selling it to the next excited and hopeful customer.

I purchased last minute before an over-seas trip, so paid $25 extra to overnight the package. Upon receiving the guitarlele from this seller, it was clear that it had been hanging on a wall somewhere for quite some time. There was dust in various places, wear on some of the frets, and the strings were heavily oxidized. That didn't bother me as much, considering the circumstances, but then I spent 15 minutes stretching the strings and tuning and re-tuning over and over with no success. I figured I should be patient with them, but I drove 45 minutes away to the nearest music shop the day before my flight to see if I should re-string it. The guy immediately noticed that it wouldn't stay in tune, tried for about 15 minutes to work with it, told me that he would have strung it tighter and that it would probably be ok after a while if I was patient. So here I am, nearly a week later, in the middle of a remote area of Nicaragua, and this instrument is worthless to me as it does not stay in tune at all. Considering it is a Kala, I expected great quality, but I perhaps the strings really weren't put on tight enough. If that's not it, then something else. I'm sad that I paid so much extra to ship it, bring it down, and now I still have no instrument to work on writing new music so this has been a total waste for me. Very disappointed. I have no need for it and I'm sitting here needing to work on new pieces and have nothing.

This is neither a good uke or a good guitar, but not horrible either. I bought it to see if I liked a guitaleleenough to invest in a more expensive instrument. It served that purpose without breaking the bank. I'll give it to one of my grandkids.

It’s cool to have an instrument that looks like a toy but sounds great. Just perfect for travel, camping, trip, friends house, bed before sleep and even a stage, if you want that particular sound. Very happy to have it.

The guitalele is perfect, and the price to,but I had to replace the upper strings was kinda rust...

I've ordered this item twice. It came damaged the first time with a bing ding on the neck, and the second time the clear coat has dings.I'm also really disappointed by the frets. Indeed the small metal pieces are really rough and would damage really quickly the strings!Items returned.Other than that, the kala is nice, and the sound correct.
