While expensive compared to other options (even from Hunter), this unit is solid, well made and with the oil bathed gearing is very quiet. We bought a second one for the bedroom replacing the original "contractor specials" that were loud and annoying. The unit is very heavy so ensure the mounting box you are attaching to is installed properly to handle the weight. We opted to have a licensed electrician remove the old fans and install these so all the details would be accounted for. This unit does NOT come with a remote control but you can purchase an add on but be aware that the trim piece above the fan is limited in the size to house the RF unit typically placed there; make sure the model you select will fit or choose on that only goes in the switch on the wall. One small item is the pull chain does not come with a "fandangle" on the end so Hunter sent us one (was supposed to be two but that got mixed up) but you can go to the hardware store and get "cute ones" if needed...).

Worth Every Penny!
It is very important that you know this fan is VERY heavy — about 70 pounds. We had to add a brace in our attic to hold it. And the light kit was Westinghouse, but it fits and operates beautifully. We also bought a remote control, because we are lazy. :) This fan is lovely; the craftsmanship is first rate. And so quiet! It makes virtually NO noise on the lowest setting. (Because of the lighting, the fan looks yellow in the photo, but it is wonderfully white). Lastly, I deferred to my friends in the south, and bought a rod to suspend the fan 12” from the ceiling for optimum air circulation. We are thrilled with this purchase.

High-Quality, Industrial Standard equipment. Fear Not.
Absolutely sublime. Quality build. The Chinese are coming along well in their ability copy superiour Western technology. Short of a restored antique original fan, and I advocate this and use restored fans in most all of my architectural projects, this Hunter fan is "no slouch" nor a piece of rubbish, as it were. These use Real öill, and it easy get excited with lubrication, and over lubricate. I use Royale Purple fan öill, available online. Over lubrication results in drips on the floor. If you want something as close to a real, authentic Hunter fan of the 1800s, heavy cast iron in feel and charachter, this my friend is it. Heavy, appears be built well, and if I were gamble, and I have done, these shall be with us in 100 years. If not, then this the best without obtaining a Deutsche made unit, still made in Deutschland. I have not seen one, yet. You shall like the purchase. I suggest you purchase one and try it. You shall be ordering more after you view this up close.

Best, longest-lasting ceiling out there
This is what all ceiling fans should be compared to. Good, heavy cast-iron housing. Oil bath for the rotating bearings. Highest speed WILL blow loose papers around the room--just what you need if you need to cool down fast. The sound is just that of wind (almost a nice rain-like sound), no knocking, ticking, or squeaking. It's too bad they've gotten so expensive and had to move production to China.

Fantastic Fan
Got to tell you, this thing is HEAVY duty and by heavy I mean about 50 lbs. It's made out of cast iron. One other important thing I did not see on any of the descriptions is that the pics show 4 blades on the fan (which I wanted) and the box showed 5 blades when it arrived. There were 5 blades in the box ... bumber ... but then upon reading the directions, you can install it with either 4 OR 5 blades ... sweet. Totally quiet, nice to look at, and runs extremely smooth once it's balanced. Better have 2 people ready when you want to install because as I said. it IS heavy.

Rock solid will last longer than you
Classic look, heavy, built for the ages. Quiet. I have had fans like this for 50 years and they are trouble free. This is replacing a builder grade fan in a bedroom. I love these things so much I take them with me wherever I move.

Lifetime motor limited warranty - but no warranty when you call.
I bought three of the Original 52" model 23838 Fans. One fan motor is leaking oil - apparently it has a bad seal. Can't get any help from Hunter Fan Co. Call their support # and get put on eternal hold. Finally I get someone on the phone who says take the fan down and remove some screws to get at the O ring. Remove it and go to the hardware store and buy a new O ring. Install the new O ring and re-install the fan. Fill it back up with oil. So beware - you won't get any help with warranty issues from Hunter Fan Co. You are on your own. Hope this helps someone who is thinking of purchasing a fan from them. Be sure you are mechanically inclined and able to make these types of repairs.

the old original fan like one I have had for 30 years
Has the look I wanted, the old original fan like one I have had for 30 years. Nice and quiet. Only issue is a little wobble which we may try to correct by changing the blade placement. Am happy that you can use 4 or 5 blades since the old ones like my 30 year old one only used 4 blades. Wish you could still buy brass plates as an add on. In the old days everything was sold separately...blades, motor, cover plates and irons. Nice addition to my living area. Hard to find the old original and was so happy to find one.
