I am being pretty picky here because this book is really good (and ...
My only complaint is that there is no ending. As so many authors these days do, the ending is in another book,,, and that book is not out yet. The reader is left with that unsettled feeling of not knowing what happens and no second book to read. The book itself is incredibly well written with an engaging plot and detailed characters. Again, as so many authors do, there are mistakes in the second half of the book. I assume authors are in a rush when they are getting towards the end, and the reader runs into sentences that don't make sense and grammatical errors. However, I am being pretty picky here because this book is really good (and I read a lot of books). There are such good life lessons in this book for both adults and kids that I am making my granddaughter read it. And the lessons are snuck in, the reader doesn't feel preached to (the story is still cool). The plot is not told, but unfolds. One almost feels a religious intent in this book, but the key here is "almost". I am an atheist through and through but was not offended by anything in this book.

Poor paper quality
SO disappointed with the quality of this book. This is one of my favorite Christmas children stories but the pages are super thin and will never hold up. I will be returning it and purchasing the 25th anniversary version just so that I get a quality book for my new grandchild that will last through the years.

Beautiful story, but book size is much smaller than it used to be
I am not a fan of this new size. Besides being smaller, the layout is different. The pictures are cropped from the original. Instead of the pictures going across 2 pages, they are on 1 and on the opposite page are the words, but they have added a border around the words making them much too small. I think I will return this and look for a used copy of the original. This is my absolute favorite Christmas picture book and story, and I hate to give a used copy, but I would rather do that than give this one.

The Most Fabulous and Under-rated Children's Christmas Book
I collect and LOVE children's Christmas books. A friend introduced me to "Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect" 22 years ago, and it is still my hands-down favorite. The ending still gets me, every time. I have given away dozens of copies of this book over the years, yet no one I've given it to has ever heard of it before they receive it from me. I never see it in stores. Before the days of Amazon, I'd always have to get the bookstore to special order it for me. I look at some of the glitzy, trite, Christmas offerings that are out there for kids (that everyone has heard of)...and it baffles me that this one isn't in every book store window this time of year. The message is timeless...we are the most beautiful when we are in the service of others. It's so wonderful to see a book for children that celebrates this. The illustrations are stunning, the story telling is captivating. I can't wait to introduce my (future) grandchildren to this book.

Amazing awesome my dad cried reading it
I am 9 years old. This book Should be a New York best seller. It shows about caring and love. You don't have to be popular and perfect, you should have a loving heart for the sake of other people.

beautiful story
This version of this book is not as pretty, large , or as colorful as the alternate edition which shows the Queen in her sleigh on the cover(and has green trim). This version of the book seems to have a lesser quality. The story is the same however and is beautiful. My son who is 6 loved the story as do I. I will keep this copy and read this each year as Christmas approaches. However, I would prefer the other, nicer edition over this one. If I find a copy of it at a decent price I will purchase it.

A favorite book of mine that my kids had
A favorite book of mine that my kids had, and it somehow disappeared so I wanted to replace it. It's a sweet story about how the trees all try to grow perfect to be the chosen tree, but out of love they bend their branches to protect small creatures, and they're no longer "perfect." Which explains beautifully, the "not so perfect" Christmas trees. Lovely story, great for bedtime too.

Cute small book
The story is sweet and teaches a great message but the book was small for reading to children, (like it’s a small sized book) so don’t expect a large sized picture book.
