Inconsistent performance and quality.
I initially loved these small, inexpensive thermometers. I have purchased several. They are inexpensive, small, easily positioned, easily moved between tanks, and easily read outside the tank. Unfortunately, in my experience, many of them are inaccurate and some of them are highly inaccurate.Although I have bought a few different brands, they all look exactly the same and I can only conclude that there is likely just one contract manufacturer stamping different brands on their product. Unfortunately, I have found significant inconsistencies in these devices, regardless of brand. In my experience, if I put 8 of these (this brand and others) in the same aquarium at the same time and in roughly the same spot, I will get 5 - 8 different readings. Many of those readings will be fairly close, say within one-half of one degree, but some will be more than a full degree off and some will be several degrees off from the majority. When compared with a traditional thermometer, I find that most of the digitals are within one-half of one degree, but again, several are one+ degree off with a few being way out of alignment.Based on my experience and informal testing of about 8 - 10 units (from various brands, including this one), I cannot recommend these digital thermometers for applications that require precision within less than about one-half of one degree -- and, even then, you have to check your thermometer regularly to ensure it is measuring within that range. If anyone has found a highly consistent and accurate digital thermometer for aquarium use (FW), please let a comment below with your recommendation. I need several. Thanks.

Inaccurate, Verify readings with LFS before use
Inaccurate. Purchase at your own risk, but do me a favor and have them verified by a local fish store if you plan to have this as your sole temperature gauge in your tank. My reef tank runs a little warm, right around 80F (as per a mercury thermometer). As soon as I put these in, they read 76.3F. I took them to a fish store that i trust, and has expensive tank management equipment, and they verified it was ready over 4 degrees too cool for their tanks, which they keep at 78. I have considered using them and just adding 4 every time i check it, but my concern is that they are not just miscalibrated, but actually read temperature incorrectly all together. It is not in my tank at all. I will spend more money and a reliable one from my LFS.!!PLEASE do not rely on this product to regulate your aquarium until you verify its accuracy. while it is possible yours is working accurately, its also possible you are setting your tank too hot or too cold and stressing your fish out, possibly even killing them.!!

Great for a general reading of your tank, if you want exact temps...look elsewhere!
Bought this particular brand because most reviews stated they were more accurate than other offerings.Using these as a quick reference to my tank temps and for that purpose they’re great.I have two in the same tank and the variance between the two is about 2 degrees. That being said, I recommend not using this as your sole thermometer if you are trying to obtain exact temp readings; you’ll need something else.I have a glass floating thermometer in the tank as well to verify any readings if needed.Other observations...-The suction cup on it isn’t great, but most suction cups on aquarium parts fail at some point anyways.-If you want it totally secured, you will need to use double stick tape or velcro. There is a slot in the back that accomodates a screw or nail if you are not putting it on the tank itself.-The temp probe needs to be weighted or secured with the supplied inline suction cup otherwise it will just float around.-I have had no problems turning mine off by holding the power button down for a few seconds. Turning it off defeats the purpose of why I bought this though, so I keep it on 24/7.Hope my review helps!

Digital Thermometer is the way to ALWAYS go
I got one of these before from a Petco for $12 with tax but for 2x of these at an even lower price is a steal!!!They're exactly the same model as the ones you find in petco or petsmart stores for like $4 more. This is the way to go and don't use any type of window sticker or red non digital thermometer. These work pretty accurate as you can see the similar readings in my two tanks that I have .Definitely a must buy for anyone wanting to maintain a safe and proper environment for their fishes.Has a suction cup and just stick it furthest away from your heater to get the most accurate reading thoughout the whole tank.I'd recommend and buy again

+/- Three Degrees
It's not a bad product, and they both work, so for 8 bucks, they get four stars. The reason I only gave four is because the thermometers aren't entirely accurate. I tested them both in a marine tank that I had at exactly 77 degrees Fahrenheit. One of these thermometers said it was 80 degrees and the other said 76. I suppose they were both within three degrees of the actual temperature, but with marine life, I needed something more accurate. They still found uses in my dry terrariums though. As far as I know, they don't have to be used in water. They've been monitoring the terrariums for almost a year now, and only one of the batteries needed replaced so far. The other one is still working fine on the original battery.

Swamp Stank Fish Soup Ruins Marriage, Thanks, BlueCosto
Today I found my Anubias disintegrating - and those are like, indestructable - and a crazy swamp stink wafting out of my betta's hospital tank. It was 93 degrees in there. This thermometer read 65. Much longer and I would have had a tiny fish soup fermenting in my tank rather than a live pet. And I like my pet.It worked at first. The other was working. I checked both tanks with a meat thermometer, which my husband thinks is totally gross, thanks a lot, "AODE 2-pack, black Digital LCD Fish Tank Thermometer." You'd better buy him some flowers or something.Anyway it's crap, don't buy it if you like your animals living.
