Mustang: The Racing Thoroughbred Hardcover – January 1, 2000

This is the best most in-depth analysis of the history of P-51 race planes that I have ever seen. Birch Matthews is a great writer. I have been a student in air racing history and this is the book for anyone interested in The P-51 Mustang and it's air racing history. Currently the mustangholds the record for the fastest piston engine airplane... I know you l will enjoy the book, It is my favorite in my air racing library. You will not put it down and is a very exciting book to read.

I have always loved the beautiful lines of the P51 and the magnificent music of a Rolls Royce Merlin. There is no other sight or sound like it. I thoroughly enjoyed this volume both as a history of the design and as a further reference into the type particularly into the examples that were entered as racers.

Great book

This fanatastic book covers the Mustang from initial design through Stiletto from the perspective of the air racer. I really enjoyed the discussions in the beginning of the book about how decisions made for other reasons made it into the first choice for Unlimited Air Racing conversion. The details are fantastic and so are the pictures. The book covers different styles of modification; Beguine, Strega, Anson Johnson's...all covered. I would also recommend the compliment to this book, Wet Wings & Drop Tanks: Recollections of American Transcontinental Air Racing 1928-1970, similar but about cross country air racing.

Must have book for the Air Racing and/or Mustang nerd. if its Birch J. Matthews you may as well buy it because its gonna be good
