Exactly what Mike intended
I've known who Mike was and recently got a puppy so decided to pick it up.I have an American Pittbull Terrier and this as helped immensely. Moreso thank I thought it would and I've semi experience with canine training. It actually provides good insight into the psychology on both sides of the fence so to say.The part on picking the breed isn't THAT long btw.

Great insights on how people interact with dogs (and with other people)
If you want to learn how to get your dog to do what you want, this book will help. If you want to learn how to get people to do what you want, this book may help with that, too.I initially picked Team Dog for novel research – my work-in-progress features a German shepherd with a fairly significant role in the story. My goal was to learn more about how dogs communicate with and respond to people. This book delivered that. It also delivered something deeper – insight on how people communicate and respond to dogs and to other people. As a former Navy Seal, the author provided valuable insight on how to use your voice and body to communicate confidence, power and authority. This encourages dogs to trust you and follow your lead. It can have the same effect on people. In fact, many of Ritland’s strategies and ideas apply not only to your relationship with your dog, but to all your relationships. A case-in-point: doing for vs. doing with. You provide the needs – food, shelter, safety. Yet, the author explains, “for many dogs it isn’t so much about what you do for your dog, but what you do with him.” The dog’s needs “to not be alone and to be out in the world seeking and playing” also must be met. When it comes to dogs (or children, or spouses, or fill-in-the-blank), I agree with Ritland that “doing with often matters more than doing for.”

Mandatory Read before selecting a dog
If you are looking for a dog to become a member of your family, there are excellent points to consider in this book to help you get it right. Getting it right will make training your new companion much easier. For me, I did some homework before picking up a rescue Belgium Malinois, she was screened somewhat, but not nearly deep enough and it is like jumping into the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim. You have to get your head right before you can get your dogs head right and Mike gives some great points on how to do just that.

the Navy Seal way ? pick the right dog
the first half of the book talks endlessly about getting the right dog. what ? it seems a little late for all the people who have a dog and want to learn training details from a supposed expert to start talking about what should have happened in the past. try to keep up, Mr. seal.did no one at the publisher's office think to point out the fact that the book title insinuated content focused on "dog training" ? not dog trivia, not picking a breed, or the myriad other little considerations that go into a person acquiring a dog in the first place. at best this indicates a lack of focus ; at worst it indicates filler material compensating for a lack of detailed instruction. clearly there are many people who have picked the "wrong" dog already, and rather than take it on a one-way car ride to the SPCA for euthanasia they want to work with the dog they have, not the one they don't.the Navy Seal Way seems to be picking the ideal dog and then building on its innate predispositions. easy-peasy trigger squeezy.can this book NOT help with training the less-than ideal dog ? if not, it may not be up to the task of training any. above all, this filler material should have been placed in the back for reference, not foremost, replacing the desired information.based on what i've said you may have gathered that i am (a little more than) halfway through. over the last few months i've picked it up a few times but find it difficult to continue reading, having been ambushed by the callous squandering of my limited reading time. it continues to take up space on my "to read" shelf while Moby Dick came and went (seriously !), among others, leaving this non-starter in it's wake ... but no more : it will now waste the time of some hapless Goodwill patron.so much for Seal training, Seal this, Seal that ... the Seal trend has run its course with me : who cares if this is what they give us as authors ? you do a great job carrying a rifle so we not stick with what you know ? please. i wouldn't blame Tupperware if they stopped putting "seal" on their products to distance themselves from this current marketing promotion gimmick

Best dog training book ever
These training instructions are unique and really work. My nephew recommended this book to me. After I saw what his dog had learned in just 10 days after being adopted from a shelter, I knew I had to get this book. Common sense instructions that work if you stay committed to following the training steps.

Very glad I read this book and I am really enjoying the rewards of doing so, you will too.
An all in one dog training and relationship building guide, that is easy to read and very enjoyable. Mike does an amazing job using appropriate training examples and keeping the flow of the book interesting. Using his experience in the Navy Seals he adds a more disciplined and adventures attitude to the information provided. This book really helped me to connect with our latest rescue dog. It taught me how to present myself to my dog, how to train him, how to remove unwanted behaviors and how for us to bond more effectively. He has only been in my house for one month and already our trust and bond is stronger then any dog I have had years prior. As a disabled combat veteran myself, my strong bond with my dog has awarded me a strong companion that I can rely on, train with and trust as I did with my brothers in arms.I would recommend this book to every dog owner, regardless of your level of experience working with dogs.

I reccomend this book for sure mainly if you have authority issues within dogs. Besides that, this book is also a good reading!

The representation was very good, however
I was expecting more. The representation was very good, however, any other good dog training book can provide same level of input. To me,
