I Have a Garden (I Like to Read)

Bob Barner, the author and illustrator of wonderful titles such as, Bears, Bears, Bears, Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!, Bug Safari, Fish Wish and many others, has written I Have a Garden for Holiday House and the I Like to Read series of books for emergent readers. The book has been evaluated and assigned a Guided Reading Level of B (the lowest level) based on the Fountas and Pinnell system.Through the eyes of a small white dog, the reader is introduced to a variety of animals and insects founds in a garden. The basic text consists of repetitive words, "I have a...." The colorful illustrations help beginning readers to be successful as they work through the text.I Have a Garden is aligned with the Common Core State Standards for kindergarten and first grade in Fluency, Phonics, and Word Recognition. It is also aligned with Print Concepts for first grade.

I Have A Garden works well as an easy reader, and also as a story time selection for infants and toddlers. The illustrations are large and colorful, each covering a full two page spread. One line of text per spread makes this a great choice for very beginning readers as we learn of the flowers, bees, chipmunks, frogs and butterflies in the garden. At the end, our little dog learns that the garden is not just his but belongs to everyone. The perfect amount of text for the youngest story listener and just the right amount of words for the earliest readers make this a book that satisfies a variety of ages. When you add colorful illustrations that are sure to charm, you get a book that is a nice investment for any child's personal collection and a good choice for story time.

Among the bugs and other flying insectsit shows other wonderful things that are found in a garden-flowers, a garden for all of us.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Love how even tho these are for beginning readers the illustrations and books are just as rich as higher level books ! Love these titles !
