Q: is 50g of lutein an excessive amount?

If you google Lutein, in the main it is often recommended 20mg a day however there appears to be no known side effects on 2 years use studies. Certain ailments apparently need higher doses. There is no research evident on use during pregnancy. I am no medic and google is not a nutritionist either. My search was a pretty basic one. I product I have Ecovit, has 40 mg. I have used it for a while now and have no evident problems with this dosage. My Macular degeneration has slowed but i cannot prove supplement efficacy obviously but will continue use as if the Ecovit lutein based capsules are the reason, why stop?
