Incredibly cheap buy-in to a new hobby/new “prepper” capability. Was able to get a .5 mile radio check with the included antenna, even through hills and forests. Has a short antenna for “walkie-talkie” style use and a longer one, with upgrades available for purchase later.The instruction booklet is bad; get the Guerrilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio for an actual user-friendly guide. It focuses on military and field use of this radio, but also has all the knowledge you need for general use. Also, he tells how to program by hand, instead of saying “just use Chirp” like everyone on YouTube. **YOU DO NOT NEED CHIRP TO USE THIS RADIO**Just a note: this radio is intended for HAM frequencies only, and you have to take a test and get a HAM license and call-sign from the FCC to legally use it. You CAN configure it to use GMRS, FRS, and MURS frequencies but transmitting on those freqs with this device is illegal per the FCC (just listening is not illegal). As an emergency radio, though, all that versatility makes it very attractive. It can also listen to FM radio if you need to get news or weather updates.

This is a great starter bundle. The programming cable and larger higher gain antennas make this set a good value. The pair of feature-rich radios are ready to go out of the box. It's versatile enough to be used as a scanner or family walkie talkies. They can easily be programmed with CHRIP to be set up for not only FRS&GMRS channels but also other local frequencies.

They are fantastic little radios, everything in a small package. Antennas attach and work great, the radios do exactly as they are expected. The only thing I think detracts from the radios is the poor quality of the corded handset and earpieces, they are basically fluff, don't buy the radios based on those included accessories.

This specific pack of two Baofeng's with other accessories, came to me after other attempts to secure a good deal; and, is in my opinion comparatively superior to the others, - in configuration, and packaging. I don't think I could have done better. These were carefully wrapped and packed and shipped and all looking fully new and carefully gone over prior to shipping from the OEM or vendor.There's to much, it seems in this kind of product that is subject to experience or inexperienced opinion to review or say much more that gets to specific. I've read through many marginally informed reviews, though well intentioned. I don't want to add to that confusion.However, I'll offer that, while I am new to eventually being a FCC "Technical" Licensed, user of these radios in general, - I was/am a longtime Telco product realization, tech principle position person. I used to sign off on permission to transmit authorizations (pertaining to the coded back end, audits and development), and have seen many product realization's (or not) that engaged UDP/IP and TCP/IP, and other within certain frequencies with many different kinds of radios.This product, it's package offering by this vendor, as it came to me in this order, (which seems to matter in this), is about the best I think I could do at this time.I hope that helps.I think I'll have my best start in proceeding with my intended use, as again, FCC Tech Lic'd and then see where it goes.As far as other uses as a limited low power setting which this radio allows, direct peer-to-peer, on the proper, allowed for frequency for that, in a remote area, none interference type scenario, -- these, out of the box are ready to go; and again, I don't think one could do better, at this time.

These things work great. For those saying the newer versions won't work on FRS and GRMS frequencies, it is true they come from the factory with those frequencies locked out. But a quick YouTube search shows how easy it is to reset and unlock FRS and GRMS frequencies.

These radios are the best value even though they come with the standard batteries. All the accessories that come with this package. The hand mic and the extended antenna make this a must buy. The programming cable is a plus but you really don’t need the disc, just download chirp and upload the frs and grms frequencies onto the radio. This is a great buy. Get it
