How do you prevent the non-enameled areas (like the edge of the lid) from rusting?

The black areas are not raw. They are coated with porcelain enamel as well. Its matte black enamel. If you have immediate rust forming there is a defect in your item.

No. It’s made out of cast iron which is not used in any microwave. If you do..... prepare yourself a Fourth of July show after you push that start button.
