Salton Cooktop - Induction Portable

I absolutely love this induction burner. I bought a second to give to my sister. Unfortunately most of these Chinese made induction cook tops beep loudly when you press any of the buttons or plug them in. I took mine apart and put construction adhesive over the small black speaker on the circuit board. The beeping is much quieter now ;)

It will heat up a pan so fast. Fair price.

Love my burner. Speeds up boiling water and cooking in the Motorhome. I use this more than my three burner stove.

I will buy another one to cook simultaneously or to maintain the food heated for our activities. In love! Great product! Work perfect with my cast iron but didn't work with my stainless steal Lifetime pots.

We recently went through the kitchen remodel from hell. We were without a cooktop or oven for months longer than we expected due to construction delays. The Salton was all we had to cook on, perched atop a small cart. Believing our new kitchen would be up and running, my wife had months earlier promised to cook for a bridal shower for 37 people (held away from our house). She pulled it off with the Salton pulling heavy duty for not only that event, but keeping my wife and I in hot food for months. From cooking huge pots of spaghetti sauce to pan frying steaks, the Salton did it all!

I’m using this primarily for dyeing bare yarn and fiber, but it is also excellent for making yogurt. It is easy to use right out of the box.

I bought this electronic induction cook top 3 months ago and have been having using it. If I increase or decrease the temperature, the stove would stop working because it could not recognize the temperature. I don't know if it is a problem with this specific stove (manufacturer defective), or a problem of the product. I either need to buy another stove or contact the manufacturer with hope for a new one.

UPDATE: Had for less than a month. Cooked with cast iron or Kitchen Aide pans. I loved it. It worked perfectly for about 25 days. Then I got two different error messages, on different heat settings, that the unit was overheating and that I should contact the Salton Service people. As I am not convinced that I want to have another one I have returned it to Amazon without replacement. Maybe I need to spend more money for a better hot plate?

We bought this unit as a back-up while our kitchen was being renovated. It was used multiple times *every day* for about 4 months (yes, the renovation took forever). It exceeded our expectations in almost every respect. Pros: 1. It's very powerful. e.g., It boils water as fast as any full-size electric stove we've ever used and we don't even use the max setting. 2. It's very easy to clean (caveat below). The surface is entirely smooth glass, except for a thin lip in front. This means the buttons are capacitive touch. 3. The 4.5 inch min pot diameter works well. While others have listed this as a disadvantage, we think it may be just the right size. As long as your cookware has a thick base, with good conductivity, the small ring of heat will be barely noticeable. The advantage with the small heating area is that you can use small pots and woks without a problem. 4. It looks great! Cons: (nothing is perfect) 1. It can be tricky to simmer something. The heat settings at the lower end are a little far apart (300, 500, and 700 watts). 100 watt increments would have been better. 2. The timer function is not very useful as it resets if you make any other changes. 3. The fan stays on for a minute or so after turning the unit off and even seems to come on randomly sometimes. Not a big deal, but it takes some getting used to. 4. The overall UI could be a little better. e.g., there is no lock function for wiping-up.

The overall quality is good, and this seems to be the best option available right now (February 2019) for a single-burner induction cooktop. My main gripe is that when you press a button, it's VERY LOUD. The BEEP can be heard several rooms away. I would've liked the ability to change the volume of the beep or if they just made it a normal volume to begin with. The induction field seems to be focused more towards the top end of the unit as well. EDIT: This unit failed on 16 March 2020, 12 months and 28 days after ordering. It turns on but will not activate the cooktop, only giving an "Er 1" code. This was a bad product. In addition to the extremely high volume of the beep, the fan noise was also much louder than it needs to be.

I use this instead of my stove. I have a gas stove with the heavy cast-iron burners. It’s always getting filthy hard to clean. Wish I hadn’t bought it. I bought the Sultan induction burner and it heats fast. It cooks great and I just love it.

I hate the fact that it beeps loudly at me. I wish all electronics could have sound disabled (except for alarms) because I hate them. That being said, this is a powerful induction burner. I boiled 1L of water (tap temp) in 02:20 which is faster than my kettle and 2.74 Ferraris faster than my old stove. It is not without faults; first you turn it on (by hitting a button WHICH BEEPS); then you press another BEEPY button to choose “Fire” which means “heat” in Saltonesque; then if you don’t like the default of 1000 somethings you push the BEEPY + button to go to 1800 somethings and the magic happens fast. But aside from the BEEPY nature, it’s a pretty good appliance and well worth the price.
