It would imagine it would work but does have a very shiny nylon appearance and feel to it. I would recommend MastaPlasta Self-Adhesive Leather Repair Patch (or similar) as I have used this to repair a headboard. It’s not perfect as you can see the patch, but it stops the tear getting any bigger
