Best Damn Dash Mount !!! The description said: "Charger City Hippo Series Universal Smartphone NonSlip Beanbag Friction Mount for Garmin Nuvi TomTom Via GO Start XXL XL Magellan Roadmate GPS *Fit all 3.5" 4.3" 5" GPS*". They should have added: Any cell phone, GPS unit and up to 7" tablets. I use it for my 7" tablet, it fits, "Open very, very wide, Mr. Mount". The Beanbag is heavy enough that it will not slide around on your dash, and the bottom is covered with a slightly sticky surface. This sticky coating is just enough to help keep the mount from moving around. The sticky stuff doesn't stick to you or your clothes enough to be a problem. If you drop it in the dirt, just wash it off. The jaws open wide, just wide enough, for my 7" tablet, a 5" cell phone or GPS unit is a snap. My 7" tablet is three years old and is much thicker and heavier than today's 7" tablets, it still fits. The wider the jaws are opened the tighter it grips the unit. This is the first dash mount that I can just throw on the dash, point it towards the driver, off I go. This mount is built to last, don't have to worry about any suction cups coming loose, plastic bracket mounts breaking, or having your cell phone, GPS unit or tablet, fall on the car floor. Before, I started out with a suction cup mount that immediately kept falling off the dash. Then I added a separate beanbag base that the suction cup mounted on. After a while the suction cup kept falling off the beanbag onto the floor. The beanbag had be placed in a stationary position. Either of these systems never gave the convenience of slipping a unit into or out of it without the suction cup coming separated from the surface that it was attached to. Lick, lick, stab it on the dash, sun dries it, it falls on the floor. We have a Chrysler 300C and a Corvette, this is why I used a portable 7" tablet for GPS, I can use the mount in both vehicles, without any fuss and little effort. The mount stays put, even in the Corvette on a rally event, I am not a slow driver, even though I am retired.

I have an older GPS and couldn't find anything to fit it to save my life! Finally came upon this little creature and it works great! I have a curvy dashboard and thought it might not work well, as I could not affix the bottom tape they have. However, it's weighted in such a way that you don't need the tape to keep it stable. I took it out for a test drive, round some really sharp curves, and the most it did was shift a little. It never fell off the dashboard. It never got so wonky that I couldn't fix it in a second. Just drove to a friends for the weekend, 3.5 hours on all kinds of roads, and it remained stable the whole time. The other great thing is that when you park your car you just take it off the dashboard and put it on the floor of your vehicle, away from prying eyes. Something you couldn't do if you affixed it. I'm buying one for a friend who has a bad habit of putting her iphone on the seat between her legs and then frantically picking it up when she's not sure of the directions. She'll love this. Super happy with this thing!

I really didn't expect much from this product when I ordered it--I've had several GPS holders and all of them sucked. This one is REALLY FABULOUS. It works for holding my smartphone, or the bulky GPS unit. PROS: It is easy to get the phone/GPS in and out of the holder. It is way more convenient to store when not in use than the bulky window mount holders or the weighted bean bag holders that flop all over the place. It just pops shut when you remove the phone or GPS and slides right into the glove box, under the seat, or into the console. It is very universal--I've put 4 different GPS units, and at least 4 different smart phones in it, and all of them fit comfortably without pushing side buttons (my phone has to sit slightly off center to avoid hitting the volume button, but I don't mind that), and there is ample room for power cords to plug in from any direction. While not as non-slip as it could be, it still stays put better than the suction cup mounts, vent mounts, cup holder mounts, and weighted beanbag mounts I've used in the past. CONS: The bottom is slightly over stuffed, so the entire non-slip area doesn't make contact with the dash board. There is also an adhesive area on the bottom with glue. I use this in two cars, and wanted something that I could easily move from one car to the other, so the adhesive is too permanent. I also live in the south and our summers are so hot that any glue will "melt" and become a gooey glob of un-sticky slime that is impossible to ever remove from the dashboard. So I don't use the sticky, it would have been better if the entire bottom was just the grippy material. That said, the grippy material still works really well--it doesn't slide around unless I take a curve pretty fast, and if I push it back and sort of wedge it between the dashboard and windshield, it will stay put. Some people say the clamp is really tight--it takes two hands to get the phone or GPS into it--but I'm a tiny person with weak hands and I can do it just fine. Over all, I love it. I've been using this holder for about 2 months, and so far I still really like it. Way better than any I've had in the past.

Needing a GPS for my being so dysfunctional in my directions I purchased this item; it worked great until my son-in-law did some detailing in my car. He must have put some kind of oil product on my dash which made my dash look great but this thing would not stay in place any longer, it started to make friends with my passenger side floor mat. After I fixed that situation it works great again, happy me :)

This item has its pros and cons. The best thing I can say and that I like the most about this item is its weight. It has a rubber pad on the base that keeps it in place very well. The pad is heavy duty also - so this item is not cheaply made. The clam shell opens and shuts with a strong spring and holds the GPS in place. There are only a few vertical adjustments that can be made with the GPS in the clamshell and those have to be made with both hands. No sideways adjustments can be made without lifting and moving the entire device. You can see from the picture that there are two indentations on the bottom where the GPS bottom edge can be placed. The 2nd indentation holds the GPS screen very vertical whereas the first indentation puts a slight slant on the screen. The top of the clam shell has several teeth that can hold the GPS are various angles. However, I believe most GPS are too tall vertically to fit in other than the 1st or 2nd notch. My GPS is a 4.5" XL TomTom, not new by any stretch of the imagination, and pretty standard in size. I cannot get my GPS in the clamshell past the first notch on the top and the first notch on the bottom without pushing with moderate force. I can jam it in the 2nd bottom notch and the first top notch, but that is as far back as it will go. I think most of the notches on the top clamshell are worthless unless you have a very small GPS. With the extremely limited adjustments that can be made with this holder, I do not recommend it if you like to be able to adjust your GPS for sun glare, visibility, comfort, etc. No adjustments can be made without using both hands - one on the GPS and one to open the clamshell as the spring is strong. I do not recommend this item unless you have a GPS on which the holder has broken or you just need something with which to grip the GPS. I do not care for the suction holders (they never stick long) or those that fit on/in my air vents. My GPS has a broken area in the back that would normally slip around a ball on a TomTom style holder. Due to how my GPS is broken, I'll keep this until I buy a new GPS. It serves it purpose with no frills or options to adjust the angle of the screen. It fits on the left side of my Prius dashboard (can't put it in the middle/right because that is where my dials and readouts are). To hide my GPS in the car and because the holder is quite heavy, and also because the GPS is a pain to take in and out of the holder, I put a baseball-style cap over it when I am not using it. The cap covers the GPS and holder completely. That way I don't have to move or lift it, or take the GPS out of it when I leave the car - both of which are major deals since (1) the holder w/GPS are so heavy and (2) the spring holding the jaws of clamshell is so strong it takes two hands to manage. The baseball cap over the GPS & holder is a perfect solution to no one seeing/stealing the GPS. It looks like someone just left their baseball cap on the dash. Works great for me.
