It takes 1 AA battery. The hole is a little bigger then the battery, but mine worked great with a AA.

Kit is a right size for hiking or camping for individual. Weight about 2-3 lbs if that.

Q: What kind of materials is the knife made of? Will it rust when it dropped into the water?

This whole kit was very cheap and disappointing. I would not purchase.

Well there's a compass you can use for finding your way out of the woods, A flint to start a fire that works great. A multipurpose tool for cutting small sticks its a small saw, a can opener and a tape measure. Flashlight illuminates the dark road, a knife and whistle.
