Can "Z" be the Last?
I was looking forward to this "Z" volume of the series with some trepidation since "Z," being the last letter of the alphabet, also might mean the last book of the series. I have enjoyed Midnight Louie and the whole crew from the beginning. This book is no exception and I was relieved to learn the story may continue. Will Las Vegas be left behind with only the Cat Pack to guard it in Midnight Louie's absence? The plot, like those before it, was inventive and continued the saga, and also helped to tie up a lot of loose ends. I was glad to see it revolve around one of the minor characters. One minor problem I had was with the occasional misspelled or inappropriately used word--I expect more from Miss Douglas; after all, she is not a self-published newbie. (I am always a little dismayed when I run across this--it means to me that the author is not reading their own product and is relying too much on spellcheck.) But I am a devoted Midnight Louie fan, and would continue to read these books even if they were written in cat prose. Write on, Miss Douglas!

Midnight Louie Comes to the Rescue
Cat in a Zebra Zoot Suit continues Carole Nelson Douglas saga of continuously unsolved murder in modern day Los Vegas. This book's murder is solved, but the death of Matt's terrible stepfather still remains unsolved. As always, however, Midnight Louie working in tandem with his human partner, Miss Temple Barr, plus Ma Barker's pack of feral felines manages to make progress, and in the next, and last, book in this series, should lay the mystery to rest. Much of the Mystifying Max's problems with his past as well as with Kitty the cutter are laid to rest--or are they? We are left with a plaintive appeal from Max for Temp;e to drop her marriage plans in order to help reconcile him with his family. Unfortunately, this gives one the feeling that this a contrivance by the author as an excuse for one more book. Many of have been followers of Louie for twenty five or more years and are looking forward to closure. It is time to wind it all up, and I, for one hope the next book really will do that.

I love all the main characters
The story is almost over. I love all the main characters. The mysteries are fun but I have read the whole series-all 26 of them-to see if Temple will finally choose Max or Matt and I guess there will be one more book to wrap that up. Midnight Louie is such a funny hero. If you haven't read any of this series and love cats, mystery and a looong fun romance-- this is for you-- but read some (I recommend all) of the earlier books in the series to understand this one. The mystery stands alone in each book but the people and Louie are a continuum. Love it!

Which is good, because we're left guessing about not a few ...
Book 26 in the alphabet series is the usual mix of noir cat comment and people alternating between utterly serious to frothy. The many threads of the series' mystery are coming together, but for those reluctant to see the last of Midnight Louie, Temple, Matt, Max and Carmen Molina -- not to mention the amoral Kathleen -- there is certainty of another book. Which is good, because we're left guessing about not a few things!

LOUIE DOES IT AGAIN
Carole Nelson Douglas has given us another 5 Star Hit in her latest book in the Midnight Louie series. Only one more to go, and I know I'll suffer withdrawal symptoms galore when it is all over. I found this wonderful series about half way through and was hooked, tracing down all the previous books in the used market, so that I could have a complete set. She has entertained me with mystery, humor, history, and insightful commentary on the human condition. Midnight Louie, may you live forever! in our hearts.

it was like I was reading about my long lost friends
At first I was afraid to read it, fearing that the series was done. As soon as I picked up the book and began to read it, it was like I was reading about my long lost friends. I just can't get enough of Midnight Louie, Temple, Matt, Max and Electra!
