Having used Twinkly lights on my Christmas tree (which are very impressive) I had high hopes for these lights. However when installing them I realized that Twinkly recommend not trying to map lengths together and the downloadable effects are few and basic. The end result is hard to distinguish from almost any other much cheaper twinkling icicle lights. Coupled with the fact that they were disconnecting from my WiFi every 3-4 days, I ended up paying a lot of money, for limited impact and a lot of work.

The lights themselves are gorgeous, and the mapping functionality is amazing! But the Amazon skill barely works (I have set it up 5+ times and it will work between 0-3 days before failing again). And I have yet to see the timer in the Twinkly app itself function correctly -- no matter how I set it, it never actually turns the lights on or off. Very disappointing flaws for an otherwise terrific product! Hey Twinkly -- update the app and revise the firmware and update the Alexa skill and I'll change to five stars.

The devices themselves are amazing. Great hardware with a lot of potential. But their software devs are complete trash. The app is horrible. You got a 50/50 chance of being able to control the lights. And once you lose a light there doesn't appear to be anyway to add it back. It's basically just bricked and stuck on whatever pattern you had it on when the software dropped it out of your devices. I suspect it has something to do with only using the WiFi 2.4 band. Modern routers use three bands that auto negotiate what they use. It seems Twinkly devices are too dumb to to connect to modern routers.These things are kind of expensive so I won't be replacing them and I lose about a strand a year. If they just used modern hardware in the controller and actually created an app that worked well these would be my jam. As such they are more just a minor annoyance in my life that looks very very good when they do work but can't be relied on for daily use.
