Good gameplay but Not for handheld
I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of the PC version for my YT channel when it first came out. My overall thoughts when playing it on PC was that it's not as good as Transport Fever 1or2 but still holds it's own. I liked it. Over Xmas I bought a Switch lite and so I decided to buy it to play on the commute. Graphically it's much simpler than the Pc version but that doesn't really take away the overall experience. Gameplay seems to be the same too but what is a bit of a let down is that it's doesn't have a handheld mode. Playing on a TV the text size will be fine but on a switch lite in handheld mode it's very very small and not a great experience. My eyes are fine but even I have to squint to read the text. This is a shame and a bit of an oversight when the rest of the game has been optimised for the platform.Essentially if you like trains and want to play on a TV you'll very likely enjoy but give the game a miss if you wish to play on handheld.Overall Score 6/10

If you like trains, this is absolutely your bag.
I have zero regrets buying this game. I've already poured a disturbing amount of hours into it, incredibly addictive. Just the notion of watching that little train do its tailored job chuffing up and down the map is incredibly satisfying. My only qualm is the Nintendo Switch port means the graphics could be better (I'm a Mac guy before anyone tells me the PC version of the game is better), but if you can see past this, you're a Switch exclusive and like trains, this is absolutely your bag.

Looks great, but sadly unplayable
As a fan of the old Railroad Tycoon game on PS1, I liked the look of this Switch version of the Empire game. It seems to retain all the best features of the Tycoon game. Unfortunately, it is simply unplayable. The so-called tutorial chapter is so laughably poor that it is impossible to figure out how to achieve the most basic tasks, such as laying a parallel track, or even buying an engine. This is so frustrating, as the game looks amazing, but after two evenings wasted trying to get to grips with the simplest of game mechanics, I fear this was a waste of money. It may work well on PC, but the Switch version is hopeless.
