THE WORLD IS FULL OF UNKNOWNS. We cannot possibly predict what is going to happen every minute of the day, but we can prepare for it. In the gear we carry, the clothes we wear, the mindset we hold. Whether we are on duty or off duty, in our country or out of cell-range. THIS IS NOT JUST A MOTTO. This is not just a line on a t-shirt. This is how we live our lives. No matter what happens, we push forward, not out of the absence of fear, but in spite of it. Because we trust our instincts, we trust our training, and we trust our gear. At 5.11, we don’t simply inspire readiness, we are readiness. IT ALL STARTED WITH A PAIR OF PANTS. The FBI training academy adopted the original 5.11 pant as its training pant in 1992, forging a decades-long relationship that drives 5.11’s commitment to public safety and the first responder community. 5.11 Tactical began developing a more extensive law enforcement line in 2003. Our designers work together with public safety professionals to create gear that meets the needs of real people in the field. In 2012, we rose to the challenge of redesigning our women’s collection to create better fitting and higher performing options. Our women’s category has grown to include premium uniforms, covert clothing, fitness apparel and more. Today, 5.11 is expanding into the outdoor and fitness markets with products like the Vaporlite short and the ABR trainer. we are determined to meet these new challenges with the same grit and fortitude that has always defined our brand.

My third purchase over 10 years
These 5.11 tactical shorts are the very best I have ever had. Water/stain resistant. Plenty of pockets and the elastic waist line makes for a comfortable fit. Very well made. Double stitched everywhere. Gusseted. Superior long lasting velcro, never had it fail. I am 6'-1" @ 250lbs and the fit is perfect, leaving me ample room to do all tasks. I am extremely satisfied. Priced right.

Solid work pant makes a solid, around-town, off-duty short.
To be honest, I truly appreciate the pant version, since I wore them for over 15 years at work and now wear them at my retirement job. I got tired of paying high prices for inferior name brand shorts and low prices for inferior cargo shorts at the big box type stores, I have loved these cargo/tactical shorts. The deep rear pockets are nice. I have them in black, the brown and gray. They have lasted over 4 years. Even my wife was impressed as they held their color and look good with a Tee, camp shirt or flannel. I appreciate the flex waistband, as my weight fluctuates at my age during BBQ seasons and holidays. They are even nicer during Amazon Prime sales events.

Excellent shorts.
I'm not in law enforcement, but I work in a mental hospital, where part of my job is controlling violent patients. These shorts (and the long pants of the same design) are the best for the job. The huge rear slash pockets are ideal for storing a supply of exam gloves, always a necessity. The D-ring holds my keys securely and conveniently. All of the pockets are sturdy and roomy. I don't have a use for the cell phone pocket or the tactical strap, and prefer to keep my pens in my shirt pocket instead of the one provided in the shorts, but they're there if you want them. The fit is good and they are comfortable and non-binding, even in the most demanding physical situations. They are also sturdy enough to stand up to those situations, due to the fabric and the triple closure as well as the stitching. They also look good enough that I don't mind wearing them as casual shorts.

Great All-round pants, with 2 major gripes
I've been wearing Taclite Pro pants & shorts for years. I'm a firm believer in on-person carry, and my pockets are filled to the brim with essential items for my day-to-day life. My work allows me to wear cargo pants, and even shorts, so I've worked out a edc system around these pants. With a good duty belt, I personally use Blue Alpha Gear belts, these pants/shorts comfortably hold 7-8lbs of gear. This particular model was first introduced to me by my EMS friends, who wore these as on duty pants. I currently have 6 pairs of Taclite Pro pants, and this recent purchase brings me to 3 pairs of shorts. The oldest pair has lasted me coming close to 4 years. Yes they have a few holes in them from abrasion and wear, & the water resistance has become worse, but for pants that sold for $30-40, these are awesome. Not only do I wear them for work, but I've done week long backpacking trips in these. If you are looking for a pair of inexpensive cargo/tactical pants, these are my primary recommendation.BUT, I have 2 major issue with these. For every pair I've bought after 5.11 changed productions, all of the stitching ends were loose. Since 5.11 has made these more expensive, now around $50 for shorts, it'd be great if they'd either tie off the stitching ends or burn the ends, so the stitch don't unravel with use. You can distinguish the old production from the new production from the zipper snap. The design for the snap button above the zipper has changed to a simpler design, just 5.11 & their logo to the right, with the new production. From rotating through the pairs I own, I've realized that the new production pairs have varying tolerances. I don't know if this is an issue with their Quality Control, or if it's tolerable with the company. Especially for the front right thigh pocket (the small one up front), on some pairs, the pocket is wider, on other pairs the pocket is deeper. This is the pocket I keep my phone in, and in the older production pants/shorts, my IPhone7 w/ OtterBox Commuter case will fit perfectly. But with the new productions, there is varying slop with each pair I wear. This could be said with other pockets, but the most noticeable ones for me is this one and the front left thigh pocket (the small one w/ velcro closure).

Pricey but worth it
These are AWESOME shorts. I bit pricey but well worth the extra money. They keep you cool, protected from the sun, and repel water easily. My first day out with these was an all day (over 6 hours of walking) tour in Israel. The back pockets are great for small water bottles and the front pockets keep your worries away of pickpockets (the shorts are slash resistant). I've worn them now about ten times in various situations and they also pass off as "nice" shorts (say for golfing or casual business lunch). As for CCW, perfect for pocket carry. Some others items of note (more of personal advice)....the front left velcro pocket is not big enough for most cell phones. i have a Z3 Compact which is a perfect fit. Anything bigger than like an iPhone 5 might not fit and definitely not close the velcro pocket. The front right pocket is NOT big enough for a US Passport but is perfect for your credit cards, money, IDs (1/2" wider would've been perfect). The shorts could be 3-4 inches shorter, great for walking but probably not for hiking. Figure out your exact waist size then get 1 size bigger in the shorts....you'll appreciate the extra room (plus there's belt loops).

Great shorts overall, but weird strap over back pocket??
Great shorts overall. They fit well. True to size, with a bit of stretch in the waist. Love the extra belt loops which have plenty of room for my usual 1.75" wide belt. The front of these design wise, and the belt loops in front are well placed for carrying my (licensed) carry pistol. The smaller flapped pocket on the front left side is actually big and deep enough for most hand gun magazines. Love the reinforced corners on the front pockets. If you've ever had the pocket clip on your knives wear your pocket corners to shreds, you will too!My only slight gripe is the pictured pull me off the ground (?) strap over the right rear pocket. I have no idea what it could actually be used for and it gets in the way of reaching for your wallet. I carefully cut this strap off.
