This is the best cordless planer in it's class.
Check the side by side reviews, this planer wins vs DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc. on a number of levels.My cordless are about 90% DeWalt due to the advanced battery system. But having owned the DeWalt Brushless XR DCP 580 for a number of years, I can tell you that the Makita outclasses the DeWalt on a number of features, depth of cut, balance, dust collection, and MUCH more power!Currently using with adapted DeWalt batteries. Fantastic tool.

Amazingly this hawg is relatively light in weight considering the amount material it takes off effortlessly but accurately. Fantastic tool

Just buy it
Fantastic tool! I have had the 18v Makita tools for years and they're generally very good. I'm a full time carpenter and builder and this planer has made my product better already! The standout features are the quiet and powerful motor and the reversible chip shoot.This planer has been an excellent addition to my gear.

Planes beautifully
I was a little unsure about paying the extra $100 for the later brushless model, but did so. Can't compare it with the earlier model but this is a really lovely planer! I had a porter cable from some years ago and the Makita is like an entirely different beast. It's very stable and flat as it begins to cut and just shaved off a bit of the door or other wood elegantly and with good control. Highly recommended as a precision tool.

Great cordless planer
Planer works amazingly. Adjustable to take just a shave or it gets aggressive when lots of material needs to be removed. Only wish it had a joist/rafter hook as I use it for deck work.
