English Roses
I ordered this book to get an update on what is currently available on this subject in the garden market. This is a beautiful coffee table book. The full page color photos are well done. David Austin is The definitive expert in English Roses and their developement. This is a great reference book for folks who like this class of roses. Beside each photo is a detailed explanation of name selection, cultivation, and hybrid history information. Who doesn't like a rose which actually has real fragrance!!

Beautiful Photos and Excellent Information!
My book arrived today in excellent condition! The photos in the book are lovely and the information about the roses is excellent! It was almost like being in a rose garden, but without the sweet scent! I really love it!

great for readers new to english roses
This book is not so much a practical book on growing roses as a catalog of the English roses up to a certain point in time. It updates an older edition that I also bought and enjoyed. There are some photographs of roses in the garden environment and these are gorgeous, but most images are of the roses from a single bush to illustrate what the flowers of the rose looks like. In some ways, these images are misleading, because as the davidaustinroses website indicates, the colors of these roses change based on climate and season. In short, what you see is probably not going to be exactly what you get. Also, Austin prides these roses as being good garden plants, so it seems odd that images of them as garden plants are not offered more frequently. If what you are looking for is like a visual bouquet, or if you just love looking at the English roses' flowers--and there are many who do!!--this may be a great book for you.Other reviewers have mentioned that there isn't too much updated in terms of how to grow the roses or even the history, although the English Musk class division is either new for this edition or greatly expanded in breeding since the last one.

Love this book....
I love roses, and David Austins are no exception. For me this book comes into its own in spring when I'm re-evaluating my rose garden and wondering which rose to plant. It is such an invaluable resource because it contains a comprehensive number of David Austin Roses, and notes the varieties which have been superseded. The photos are true to colour and descriptions accurate. This is a book which will always be in my possession not only to enjoy as a resource but also to ponder at the time of the rose growing season when I just yearn for my roses to start flowering once again, and I know I have two to three months before flowering starts for the next season.

Sent me right to the computer to order roses
I'm a dedicated rosarian, and love pouring over catalogs and books about roses. This book allowed me to indulge my senses, but unfortunately, also empty my wallet. How can you not linger over these lucious David Austin roses, and not yearn to have more. Also, liked reading David Austin's overview of rose history and his attempts to develop a rose with all of the "charm" of the old fashioned roses, along with the better qualities in the newer roses.
