Bigger is better
I’d highly recommend maintaining your situational awareness with this bad boy...in theory you could zap your cellphone but in practice you could smash your finger against a large metal object in about zero seconds. It’s unlikely that you need a magnet this strong. Wil E Coyote doesn’t need a magnet this strong. That said, you want a magnet at least this strong because it’s just cool. Use it to amaze children, cofound dogs and win the love and affection of every woman alive. You don’t have to be fit, smart or funny when you can just suck the car keys out of a ladies purse and use the hours spent pulling them off of the magnet to win her heart. Irritate your annoying coworker by putting this magnet on the hood of their new Tesla and laugh as they scratch the paint pulling this thing off. Find every nail in the world.Do you need it? No, of course not but you’ll be happier and maybe better looking if you buy one.

We got a shopping cart!
So we started with a smaller magnet and instantly wanted a larger one because there were a lot of things that it couldn't lift. We are surrounded by lakes so we went to a local one and instantly felt something very heavy. Now, I'm not sure if this is the most accurate review because we are pretty sure that the magnet got caught on the bar and required a lot of strength to pull up, but as you can see, my boyfriend pulled up a shopping cart.

Great magnet
Great magnet. I suggest to anybody who purchases it to put it in a sock before using it. It will scratch sliding it off and the sock will also make it more slippery and easy to remove.

Been needin one of these a long time
I can’t tell y’all how long I’ve been meanin to get me one of these. I’ve dropped more tools and small parts in places that weren’t that easy to retrieve them from, on the ranch, for years. I finally decided to get me one when I dropped some small (clean) rifle parts on the new carpet while walkin through the house headin to my workshop. I had to beg my beautiful bride not to vacuum that patch of carpet until this dang thing was delivered. Needless to say, I got it delivered two-day prime to the ranch, (thank you, Amazon!) and had all the parts recovered before the delivery driver got out the ranch gate. In all fairness, it is a pretty far piece all the way down to the gate, from the house. I’ve used it since then to recover a pair of linemen’s pliers I remembered dropping down in the combine last spring. I keep it in the toolbox on my ranch truck, cause I’m clumsy and accident prone...at least that’s what my beautiful bride says. Personally, I think it’s just normal everyday ranch stuff. Anyway, this here magnet works pretty darn good for the purpose I need it for. I just attached a little bit of rope to it and pick up dropped stuff!

Super strong magnet shielded on top and sides
Super strong magnet - so don't get between the bottom of this and any metal or you might lose a finger. I love that it has heavy metal on top and sides - to shield the magnet (you see the scissors next to the side of the magnet - no attraction, but as soon as I tipped the magnet up - it snapped up the pair of scissors). My sister lives on a lake, and they've accidentally dropped tools off the dock over the years. Next summer I hope to retrieve some of them with this new toy. Standard sized scissors helps to show size of the magnet.

This is a very strong magnet
I watched some Youtube videos on magnet fishing, and thought it would be fun to try. Magnets vary from 100 to 1000 pound so I thought I would split the difference and go with 500. This a very strong magnet! Out of the box, I stuck a pair of pliers to it and could not pull it straight off. Had to work it off sideways which was hard.Very pleased with the price and quality. If you find an old army tank in the river, you might not be able to pull it loose. Use a strong cord.

not even close to listed magnet size, ratings are inaccurate at best, not impressed!
I ordered the D120 that is advertised as a 4.72 inch magnet. The reality is that the magnet is actually 3.56 inches and surrounded by .52 inches of metal around the circumference (about 4 times as thick as what is pictured in the listing photos and 4 times as thick as what is typical of similar fishing magnets). That means that the magnet is barely 75% of it's listed size and the rest of the size is exaggerated by cheap steel to make the magnet seem larger. Additionally, I am far from impressed by it's strength compared to another 2.36 inch fishing magnet that I have; it is only marginally more powerfully even on 1 inch thick steel. The seller's listing information even contradicts itself; the item description says "could reach maximum strength of 1380 pounds", while the picture states "magnetic strength reaches 1080 pounds".

Good for beginners
Pretty solid considering I got it because my boy has been watching youtube videos on it. I did put some jb weld around where the eyehook screws into the magnet mostly because I read reviews saying it unscrews so I skipped the finding out process. I will add that just because it says 500lb pull I'd say it's more about 150-200lb pull. We hooked onto some stuff but it just popped off one was a old sign
