The best aftermarket Joy-con Shells hands down!
This was one of the coolest projects I have embarked upon recently. I would say the difficulty of swapping out your joycon's shell is somewhat moderate but actually easier than expected If you have taken apart any electronics in the past this should be fairly straight forward there were a couple of tough spots but overall I would definitely do this mod again! The actual disassembly process can be a bit daunting but a couple of notes first off you only have to actually detach two ribbon cables and those are the cables connected to the ZL and ZR buttons because those buttons are connected to this inner piece that you should probably replace to reflect the included piece and not the color of your joycons - because if you had say red joycons and were replacing with a white shell then this middle piece would show red a little - most of the color variants i saw show the shells with a black inner shell and while I would have been nice to fully match the color scheme it still matches the shoulder buttons colors so it works well. The biggest trouble spots for me were when detaching the ribbon cables of the ZL and ZR button and actually removing the buttons from the old housing - they have these tiny springs and if your not careful these will go flying off into the either never to be found again. I actually lost two springs this way but luckily extreme rate thought of this and include additional springs for that very reason but my suggestion would be when you get to removing and re-installing the ZL and ZR button do so in a clear bag so you can see your work but also you can contain the springs because they most definitely will fly everywhere. The Right Joycon was also more difficult then the left and I would suggest starting on the Left because the Right has a lot more components to fiddle with but overall this was a really fun project and I learned a ton and the actually new shell from ExtremeRate is fanstansic it feels just like the stock joycons and looks extremely cool. I'm so impressed by their quality.A little side note about the D-pad While I will say I love that I did the dpad one these are not a PERFECT dpad replacement because essentially the way a traditional dpad works is that it has a pin in the center of the dpad that it swivels on giving you a bit of play where as these are just a direct connection to what used to be buttons it feels great and solid but its a bit of a different feel - very clicky.Overall if your interested in getting really cool colors for your joycons i would HIGHLY recommend going with ExtremeRate avoid those other competitors as Their quality is much less impressive and the results are worse. The only last thing I would suggest is get yourself a tweezers for being able to manipulate some small bits and maybe a spudger to pry off parts that are stuck down etc. GOOD LUCK!

Best JoyCon Housing on Amazon!
I bought my Switch around launch and about 3 years later I’ve finally began to experience the inevitable JoyCon drift. So not only did I order a new analog replacement but decided on a new housing as well. I figured it would be a fun little DIY to do during quarantine. Originally I wanted to purchase the housing with buttons on the left JoyCon but it wasn’t available in my color of choice (Caution Yellow) so I settled for the D-Pad Version. Now due to the current pandemic, I can understand why orders are taking longer to ship so keep that in mind when ordering! Thankfully my packages arrived on time with the analog sticks. As far as installation videos go, this one requires moderate comfort in disassembly. I highly recommend watching the tutorial from JerryRigsEverything. He is very clear and in depth so that made my installation go extremely smooth. In total it took me about 2 hours. The quality is very close to the original Nintendo parts so that is a plus. It feels just as smooth and looks official. The D-Pad I thought I would dislike but surprisingly I don’t. It has a good feel and can imagine inputs being easier for fighting games. My only concern is that I would probably be stuck with a weird JoyCon if I decided to take it off for multiplayer, but even so I can’t imagine it being that bad.Overall my only gripe is the tri-wing tip for the screwdriver. It stripped one of my screws and I had to break open the left JoyCon to proceed with the installation. Thankfully I had another tri-wing that came with my analog stick replacements. It was definitely more defined or deeper than the supplied one because removal was 10x easier. On the other hand the supplied one is superb looking screw driver and the Phillips tip worked well.I firmly believe these are the best JoyCon shells you can find on Amazon. If you have time and patience I’d highly suggest purchasing!

Its okay
++Update++So I went ahead and about 2x sets one read and one purple, again you need time and patients and steady hands to work on the really small micro size components again its not a full color its white with paint on it, not sure how long it will last, but i do like the D-pad, looks and feels solid only time will tell. I just wish the red and purple were just one more shade darker because sun light or white light 5k or more will make it look a shade lighterThe shell is white, but painted over. I don't know how long it will last, before it flakes cracks or rubs off, and apparently normal wear and tear is not covered in the 6 month warranty. This need lots of patience and steady hands because everything is delicate process too my 2hrs. This color is nice and its a Mario red color. All parts needed to install were included but delivery was late. I will consider buying another set for my other switch console.

Buy these now
I’ve had Joycon shells before, notably the clear blue ones. Those where poorly fitting where you can feel the edges of each individual shell and always had too much flex to them on top of being too brittle over time. These shells are perfect in every way. Fit just like Nintendo OEM Joycon Shells and with a huge bonus with converting what should have been the D-Pad. I’ve replaced many Joycon shells or replaced Joy sticks and I will no doubt be buying many more of these. They are smooth and fit extremely well, with everything having its place with less then minor defects. I’ll update my review if these show any problems in the future.
