There is no requirement to be 30cm away from the object, just do not cover up the heater when it is working, it will not burn the skin if touched by accident, but it should be kept away from children, pls read all safety warnings before your use.

Is it possible to paint the panel or to use a mural type sticker potentially cover up the panel to improve the appearance?

You would need to ask the manufacturer but I doubt it as front panel gets hot

Would this work well in a conservatory will a shallow insulated wall

No I have just bought one for the same job and it won't get above 15 degrees with it on constantly and doors closed. It gets extremely hot to touch aswell u wish in the item description it had a better description of where it would work well or poorly and to say it's good for a baby room is bad
