Rugged, yet comfortable boots
Really my only negative comment is that these boots run about half a size smaller than my shoe size. If you tend to hike in cooler temps and wear thicker socks, I'd recommend going a full size larger than your normal size. Otherwise, these boots are one of the best pairs I have ever owned. They are supremely comfortable and break in very easily. A day or two of moderate walking will do it. They look very nice in the Moab orange-- not too flashy, but remark worthy. I wore them daily during the four months I was in Afghanistan and they came out of that experience with only the most superficial scuffs. A wipe with a damp cloth cleaned them up and they still look remarkably good. So far, the boot's waterproofing has been fairly well tested-- I have walked through ankle deep water and not a drop got through. I have walked in the rain and my feet were the only part of me that stayed dry. The boots have great stability and ankle support for moving over difficult terrain. The soles have sufficient grip for climbing and descending fairly steep grades. One minor thing: The boots do not breathe that well. For me that has meant fairly sweaty socks at the end of the day. If you are considering these boots for long term excursions in hot or humid conditions, I would factor that into your thinking. As far as I am concerned, this shortcoming is so minor that it doesn't even take away a star from the boots' rating. These are excellent, versatile boots that deserve your consideration.

Outstanding Light-weight Hikers
Soon after I bought these boots but before I used them even once, I damaged my achilles tendon. About a year later I tried to wear them, but found them stiff and uncomfortable and started thinking that I should just sell them on ebay. Then last year I tore my other hiking boots and decided to give these another try. Boy am I glad I did! These have become perhaps the most comfortable and secure hiking boots I've ever owned--and I've hiked a lot and owned a dozen pairs of quality hikers. The biggest surprise is how wide the toe-box is: In other boots I often take a wide but Salomon doesn't offer a wide--but there is nonetheless plenty of room. There are three qualities which really elevate these boots for me: 1. They are extremely stable with no ankle turning and a really secure feel on all kinds of terrain 2. Excellent grippy soles, the best non-Vibram, good on rock, dirt, and slippery stuff 3. As noted above, these are exceptionally comfortable--and I'm a guy with really sensitive feet. Another surprise is how water-resistant these are, given my less than happy experience with other fabric leather goretex boots. I live in the east, the damp White Mtns are where I live, and these not only keep my feet dry, the leather impressively doesn't absorb water. I spend a lot of time in the rough and rugged high alpine zone, which has worn other boots out in as short a time as a few months: As yet these boots are holding up very well. Highly recommend.

A very nice boot with great foot support
This is my third pair of Salomons. However with the 3D GTX Foot Chassis, also the stiffest. DO not expect these to be as 'soft' initially as previous offerings if you've been wearing their lower boots (not the GTX3-or 4 Series. I "Think" i used to wear a size 8.5 until all the companies like Merrill, Vasquez, Etc. could no longer produce a 'standardized' size. Only US Produced Danners remained true and i have too many pairs that are too smalll. Being in Australia, returning to MFR for another size is a proposition as expensive as a new pair of boots so friends have gotten some nice new boots. The Salomons finally deviate away from using nylon lasc loops which exploded on my last pricey pair causing a early purchase of these. i'm waiting to se how metal replacement nylon lace hooks stand up to the rigors of the Aussie jungle where i live. On initial wearing the flexibility and rigidity were pretty stiff but they seem to be breaking in and should be fine. I wear an 8.5 but the size 9 is a lot more comfy than a new pair of Merrills in 8.5. I doubt any buyer will be disappointed with these, especially if they could be found at a good price like in the $140-$150 range. The construction is good and the rubber toe caps wont soon be separating from the toes, etc. The height is great for support and as i've had a prev. ankle injury, these are really good for the support. I wear them for everyday farm work here and the weight is light, really good anti-slip tread and so far well waterproof. Salomon Men's Comet 3D GTX Hiking Boot, Dark Titanium/Swamp/Turf Green, 9 M US

Perfect-ish
These boots were a doubtful purchase for me as they had received good and bad reviews in equal measure.I will have to update this review as time passes but for now I will comment on their performance during a recent 10 day Pyrenees hike.To start with I’m glad I went a half size bigger as they were a snug fit with my socks on, but not uncomfortably so.In terms of performance, for 10 days I absolutely bullied the boots across rocks, scree, grassland, woodland and everything in between. I’m an ‘off the trail’ kind of guy and the boots took everything admirably well.At the end of my trip, my feet felt as fresh (if not slightly fresher as a result of the physical conditioning) as the day I left. No fatigue and no blisters (although credit for the lack of blisters is due in large part to my ‘1000 mile’ socks). They’re pretty lightweight and I never felt as if I was lugging a couple of bricks around on my feet. The negatives:When laced up fully, the top of the boots chafed my ankles pretty badly, but having changed the lacing to lower down the problem went away.Waterproofing. Out of the box, they’re not. Perhaps this is something that I am supposed to sort before first use (with nikwax or similar), but then they shouldn’t be advertised as waterproof. This was only in dew laden grass as well so not good in my book. With medium weight hiking socks things got pretty warm, however not to the point of discomfort and did not become an issue.Early days yet so I can’t comment on durability but certainly an item I’m glad I took with me, and as long as you go a half size bigger and properly waterproof them before use I recommend them.

durable and long lastin in harsh conditions
I bought these as a winter boot for desert conditions due to the goretex liner. I chucked a pair of sorbothane insoles in them to give extra comfort. I have been so impressed with them, I ordered a second pair. They are so comfortable and easy to wear that I now use them daily and have pushed all other boots to the back of the closet. They have lasted well, more than a year now, tread is showing only very minor wear and the integrity of the boot has stayed perfect. I only ordered another pair to have a change of boots, I would thoroughly recommend these particular and all Salomon walking boots to anyone who asks.

Salomam Walking Boots
These boots were up to the usual Saloman standard and at a bargain of a price. I recently wore them in Switzerland walking at altitudes of 2500m in pretty rugged terrain, they were very comfortable, my feet remained dry throughout plus blister free👍 I would recommend these boots to any serious walker. Although my feet are size 6, I always buy a size 7 walking boot and wear good quality thick walking socks.

best boots you have to try them.
I bought a pair a couple of years ago on the crest of a whim when all my colleagues bought them. I will not be buying boots from any other company now as these really are the very best of everything I could ask for. Durable, weatherproof, assured, and reliable.

Only been wearing for 2 months and no longer waterproof
In my opinion these are a nice looking boot with good grip and competitively priced. However they have only had light use and already they seem to be leaking so might be about to enquire about returning.

Fantastic boots from Salomon
Fantastic boots from Salomon.Excellent light weight and good fit. No boot retains water repellancy for good but these keep out all but the worst and dry easily for the next outing.

Very Satisfied
My second pair of these boots, bought as back up to my existing before undertaking a long walk. The other pair have walked 1,000 kms in just over 2 months and have stood up very well. They are comfortable, snug and MOST importantly no blisters.
