Q: Can you put a tremelo system on a guitar with a stop tail? Spacing looks incompatible with a Bigsby style, perhaps another?

I,m not sure but if you are talking about this particular Guild guitar, you would be putting a lot of money and effort into not much of a guitar. There are plenty of economy guitars out there already equipped with a bigsby. You might check out the Gretsch streamliner line. You'll probably find what you want and frankly in my opinion its a better quality instrument.

Q: Is the lower bout of this guitar as wide as a Gibson 335?

Lower Bout Width of the Guild Starfire I DC is 16 3/8" (416mm). I have looked at several ES335s on Gibson's site and they do not specify the lower bout width.

Q: Will the Whammy Bar work in both directions ?

The Bigsby style tremelo will move in both directions, of course raising the bar up will raise the pitch, depressing the handle will lower the pitch. If you watch a video of someone using a Bigsby tremelo, you will see them use the bar in both directions.
