This review is on the AprilAire 1413 Performance Upgrade Filter Kit. It’s packaged very well for shipping and Amazon arrived at my door on Christmas Eve, just 2 days after I ordered it. All of the components have the look and feel of the highest quality and are very well made and designed.The assembly only took a few minutes to complete. The 6 metal frame pieces simply snap together. After removing the old, cumbersome filter from my Space-Gard 2400 housing, the new frame slides into place on the existing guides inside the housing. The new 413 pleated filter media has plastic guides securely attached to the top and bottom that simply slide into the guides on the new frame assembly. Reattach the door to the housing per the well illustrated instructions and you’re all done !One of the best features of this filter kit is that you have the ability to use optional high performance filters offered by AprilAire. The standard 401 filters are okay but they can’t compare to the quality of the 413, 413 CBN (carbon) or the 416 HEPA style filters.Clean air in my home is important. That’s why I avoid the lower cost and quality imported filters. Amazon carries genuine American made AprilAire Filters 🇺🇸.

Good Filter but a real challenge and a PITA to install in the sliding cartridge BOX that disassembles, you have to fan out the filter like a venetian blind manually, hook up the cardboard edges to top and bottom retaining slots - then reassemble the cartridge and slide it back in. Not like a normal furnace where you simply swap out the old filter with new one! Instructions were printed on shopping container (that had the shipping label covering it). Lucky for me I remembered the basic installation procedure. I can see a person having an HVAC person do this and charging $$$. After you do it a couple of times - its EZY PZY!

This was a great price for the 2 pack of filters , it took me about 10 minutes to change but it used to take 30 as I had to put all the ribs back in and it usually took forever to get the spacing right but there are already spaced so they just plop right in . What a great idea.

Honestly I'm stumped by anyone who says the initial upgrade kit was easy to install. It wasn't, but once done and installed it will be very easy to replace the filter next time. And of course not having to deal with those ridiculous accordian pleats and flimsy cardboard is huge so I'm not complaining overall. Just a word of caution that the installation photos aren't the greatest (there are multiple models so maybe mine just didn't have the reference points in the photos for a guide).
