The Shoulder Relief Girth actually changes the position and angle of the billets to prevent the saddle from interfering with the shoulder. The center of the girth is set forward to sit in the horse’s natural girth groove. While the sides of the girth are cut back to meet the billets 2 inches behind where the horse’s natural girth groove lies. This brings the billets from angling forward, to becoming perpendicular to the ground (in the case of a forward girth groove horse), which reduces the saddle’s tendency to be pulled forward into the shoulders. With horses that have shoulder interference without angled billets, it simply moves the billets back to keep the saddle farther away from the shoulders. The secondary benefit to this shape, is that it is cutback at the elbows. This gives more room for elbow movement as well, and prevents galls in the elbow area.

My horse loves it, just not sure why it’s so costly
I really love this girth. The craftsmanship is excellent, nice leather exterior, and the neoprene is nice and soft. It genuinely solves the issue of my girth placement. I have a large shouldered OTTB and his saddle just does not sit well directly above the girth line. This is clearly much more comfortable for him and leaves room for him to really use his shoulders. What’s gets me is the cost. I understand it’s a shaped and well crafted girth but honestly, why is a horse’s comfort as an athlete bought at a premium? Anatomical girths should be the standard as there have been numerous studies that show they improve the horse’s performance but instead they are considered a luxury. I never mind paying higher cost for better craftsmanship but this feels like I’m paying a higher cost for something that should be readily available to all riders. If vendors want to see equipment like this used with the every day horse they need to start pushing products like this using a price point where it will be used by all. I will warn those who have dark brown or more ‘Havana’ type colored tack that the brown girth has a pretty bright mahogany undertone. It matches okay in the sense that brown is brown but it’s definitely noticeable with dark brown tack.

Great girth!
This girth was exactly what I needed to complete our saddle fitting journey! I recently invested in a Schleese saddle and needed a new girth. It’s really hard to find a black jumping 3-ply elastic girth that is also over 4 inches in width (recommendations by Schleese) and not over $200. This one fit the bill and is great! My saddle never slides, and my mare has stopped pinning her ears when being girthed. The leather is nice quality and the padding is very nice!

Great tool for saddles that creep forward
This girth is a great solution to keep saddle from slipping forward. I have used other brands of contoured girths - but the "bump out" on this girth is a full inch more forward than on my others. Leather quality is great - softer and more flexible than my other contoured girths. The only caution is that I found it did not work well on a friend's big barreled (read: heavy) horse. When rightened, only the back part of the girth made contact - rather than the front - so it would pinch.

Great girth
I love this girth. It's been a little hard to stretch it out so I can use it on my CC saddle, but it's well made, easy to clean, and really beautiful.

Worth every penny
I’ve been putting in a lot of effort into getting the best saddle for my 3 mares (my 2 jumpers shown here) that I can this year and all three of them have the shoulder relief girth and love it! The saddle not only fits better, but there is a clear different in my mares moving forward open and relaxed. I also bought the short synthetic one for my bareback pad converter (keeping all of my tack black). Definitely recommend!

My Horse Loves It!
I have an 8 y.o. OTTB that gets a little cranky when he is being saddled. He has no joint or muscle issues. Once I switched to this girth, he seemed a lot more comfortable and more cooperative. The construction is high quality for the price.

Happy pony = Happy Trainer
Purchased for a lg. Welsh pony mare. She was not comfortable in the canter. Not happy . Saddle fit is perfect . This girth keeps the saddle from sliding forward. Her shoulder movement was free. She cantered 1 st day in the girth. Ears forward and freedom in her movement. I will eventually replace all my girths. Love it.
