The rope is plenty long, just make sure you tie it down or have a buddy hold it. Used the 2 sided magnet the 3rd time my son and I went out with it and he snagged pay dirt on the 4th throw. A rusted up 20 gauge Winchester shot gun. We have found nails, fish hooks, a boat tie down and other pieces of metal. Fun and exciting!

I bought this to pick up nails, screws, staples, etc from a fire pit used to burn demolition debris.I am demolishing my basement that was built in the 60's. All of the dimension lumber is untreated, and held together with common nails -- no chemicals, or hazardous stuff.Rather than having my waste collector put this perfectly good, dried wood into the landfill, I've cut the wood into manageable pieces and used them in my backyard fire pit. I expected to extract the nails, screws, staples etc with a strong magnet. I bought this magnet for that purpose.I wasn't expecting to have to burry the magnet in the ash, or use a rake to bring the debris to the surface. However, the magnet does not seem to be strong enough to attract items unless they are on the surface and about an inch away. When I was buying this magnet, I was a bit worried that I'd end up with a ball of nails because the magnet would be too strong, and I wouldn't be able to remove the nails. That isn't a problem. In most cases, I'm able to remove the nails with just a couple of fingers on a gloved hand (not an efficient grip).I presume that one could calculate the actual strength and that the 500LBS rating is based on the PSI rating multiplied by the surface area. So, if you had something that has a flat surface area of 6-8 square inches, and weights 500LBS, you might be able to lift it with this magnet. But that is not consistent with my experience.

My boys and I took this out immediately and it was so much fun. We found so much metal in the bottom of the canal by our house and every bridge nearby. It actually feels like a fish is on the line when the magnet attaches to something in the water and if the magnet detaches it feels like we lost a fish. Such a cool feeling. My only caution is wear sneakers and buy gloves. If you attach to something heavy, it will take all of your strength to pull it up. Sometimes bridges have metal pipes - watch out for these. If you magnet gets caught on one, like mine did, I had to kick it off.

I work for General Motors and I showed all my friends this magnet and they world going crazy how strong it was.It works great on different kinds of metal but if you put it on I beamGOOD LUCK trying to get it off.The thicker the metal , the harder it's sticks.The backpack I bring to work is 30 pounds. I move around the plant a lot so I wanna be able to keep my bag off the ground.

It's a good and strong magnet, I haven't used the rope yet so I can't say much about that but I stuck the magnet to a pair of scissors and pulled it right off and thought it was kinda lame, I then stuck it to the side of my safe and well, its the safes magnet now.

a ton of fun, fished for a while in a few different places with no real luck other than had a really fun time adventuring and laughing. the other set , we got stuck to a bridge and its there forever now

bought this and a wukong magnet to start magnet fishing. this magnet held up very well and even preformed a bit better than the wukong. I got this magnet legit stuck underwater under a branch and it held up as I pulled this huge branch out of the water, 10/10 would buy again.
