How to Get Your Children to Clean Their Rooms Using Rubric Rules: A Teacher's Strategy

I'm buying her other book
Practical advice I can put to use. The focus is on a single thing -- getting your kids to clean their rooms, but this is about so much more. The author put these techniques in place after her boys were 12 years old and it made a huge impact on how her sons turned out. I'm so happy I found this book when my kids are 3 and 5. I can see how applying the advice in this book is going to work and we're starting this weekend! I'moff to buy Katie's other book now.

Very thorough, yet flexible system. I would recommend this book to parents who need a little help around the house AND those who want to teach your children how to be fiscally responsible.

What a great idea for teaching children values that will follow them ...
This is a well-written, easy-to-read book with a touch of humor to keep the reader interested. I wish I would have had this book when my four children were still at home. Since that was not possible, I decided to purchase it for my grandchildren's parents! What a great idea for teaching children values that will follow them through adulthood.

Wonderful insight with easy to follow instructions
Wonderful insight with easy to follow instructions. It was very easy for my 3rd graders to follow and they loved the pictures. I loved having the charts already made out. I would highly recommend this for others.

I Approve This Book 100 Percent!
This book was part of the curriculum for a parenting class that I attended. Before attending the class and reading the book, there were things that I had not considered when it came to teaching, training and disciplining kids. After attending the class, I had the training necessary for a more effective means of getting kids to better perform and respond accordingly to my instructions / commands. The main thing that I took away from this book and the class was how to develop a consistent routine that leads to kids being trained in a manner that will follow them into adulthood. Lastly, the book taught how to properly administer discipline to discourage disobedience and reinforce the training goals and routines. This book is highly recommended and encouraged for parents in need of a proven gameplan that can start as early as the toddler years.

Practical, helpful and easy-to-read; loved this book!
This is a tremendously helpful, easy-to-read guide for parents, caretakers, and anyone who regularly interacts with children. We are facing a generation of young people who are incredibly entitled and lack personal responsibility. Despite my good intentions, I wasn't sure exactly where to start in teaching my girls how to work hard and wondered if my kids were still too young. This book provided me with practical help and a simple process to follow. My daughters (ages 3 and 5) now not only clean their room, but they have also started taking on various responsibilities around the house. This book also includes sections on money management and how to relate it to household responsibilities, and is written so that it is relevant for parents of teenagers or toddlers. It has helped me tremendously! There are templates for various ages so you can actually see examples and make them fit your family/circumstances. So many parenting books I have read left me feeling overwhelmed or discouraged. The author Katie Ely writes from a down-to-earth perspective that encouraged me with her personal stories and challenged me with her wisdom. Buy this book if you are ready to teach your kiddos personal responsibility--you will not regret it!

Every young parent needs to read (and practice) this book!
I wish I'd had this book when I was raising my son! I've actually hired the author's sons for both business and personal jobs, and I've never met such polite, hard-working, focused young men. I asked the author what her secret was, and she explained her method of raising the boys. I was so intrigued. When she told me she was writing a book about it, I told her I wanted a copy for my grandchildren! The book is easy-to-read and the rubric charts can be easily "molded" to fit individual families. As a retired college business professor with over 32 years in the classroom, I wish all my students had been raised by parents who had read, "How to Get Your Children to Clean Their Rooms Using Rubric Rules." This book should be required reading by every parent! I will definitely being buying copies to give as gifts at baby showers!

This strategy really works!!
My girls (ages 10 & 6) and I love using the Rubric Rules strategy to get their chores done and rooms cleaned. Before we started using this system, it was so frustrating for me to get them to do their work. They would gripe and complain and then I would think they were cleaning when actually they were playing. However, with this system, they now know exactly what is on their “to do” list and what has to be done and by what time. And if they don’t get done what is on their list by the said time there will be consequences. It did take about a month of one on one training to make sure they knew what to do and how I expected it to be done. But after that, I could just give them their list to check off and they would go get it done. No more whining and complaining or playing around. They now are proud of themselves and love to ask me to come and see how well they did.
