Decent product, awful documentation, don't plan on using the web/java interface
The documentation did mention Java was required. It also gave access credentials that did not match the product. A web search helped with that. I managed to get in on the RS-232 interface and set some account parameters so I could get in and manage over SSH and TELNET. Those worked. The software could be improved in this product. It's acceptable, not great.Web interface requires Java. Really, it requires Java on Windows. The applet is not signed, so you need to turn off security in your Java runtime or it won't run. For what they do in the interface, a nice HTML-based interface would be enough, or something fancier that used Javascript or Jquery or AJAX style interface. Doing that, the product would support all browsers with little trouble. But no, they went with Java, and unsigned applets.Screws for mounting the rack brackets didn't go in all the way. Trying to take one of them in further felt like it was starting to strip. Left the rest rather than damage them.Secondary power is via a 20 amp IEC cord. Actually would have been nice if both primary and secondary power cords were removable in my case as that would have made fishing the cables through raceways easier. The unit has round power plugs as well as adapters to the flat blade 20 amp 115V you'd more commonly see in a house. Nice to have both, and nice the adapters were included.Update March 2015: The unit works fine, but do not expect to ever use the web interface. The unsigned Java Applet cannot be run anymore. Because of serious security issues, older Java can't run on your computer any more. Apple won't allow it to run in Macs due to the holes. So what does TrippLite do? The release notes for the firmware for the management card embedded in this thing says explicitly that the firmware doesn't support the present versions of Java. Well that's just dandy. Given no browser will run a Java old enough to be able to disable the security measures, that means no web access. Lowering to three stars. I sure wish the vendors embedding Java Applets would just implement really simple, basic HTML. It'd be less pretty, but it would work from anywhere, including an iPad in a pinch. Disappointing that TrippLite is unable or unwilling to live in the present security universe.

Quality, Quality, Quality
I'm quite surprised that Amazon carries this product, but we have been using this Static Transfer Switch (STS) for one of our projects for our customer and it's been working very good for sometime now. We have 0 complaints and it's just works. It has 24 power outlets, 12 in the front and 12 in the back and requires 2U space. The case is very sturdy and easy to install and setup. Also, this particular STS is priced very competitively compared to other STS brand. I hope Amazon will carry more of these. Amazon also shipped it very quickly as well, so thank you Amazon!

Love the transfer switching!
This power distribution unit is worth it for the Automatic Transfer feature alone. I am using it in a location where power is a problem, especially during the Winter months. We have two Tripp Lite UPS's, on two backup generators and use this PDU to transfer power if one of the systems fail. The only thing that would make this unit better, in my opinion, is if all the outlets were on the back instead of the front.

This is a great product to provide power grid redundancy to devices with only one PSU.
There is a good number of outlets and the management interface provides easy management and good insight into the outlets. The ATS feature works great.Three complaints and the reason for 4 stars:1) I do not like that one cable is fixed and the other is a C20 (accepts C19 plug). I would have liked to use the same cable on both and not have to worry about adapters on the fixed cable.2) I had a few problems getting the web interface to load properly (stupid Java), but the CLI, via direct console, SSH, or Telnet, provide the same functionality as the web interface and SNMP access provided easy access to the data.3) PDU will only draw power from one power source, PDU output outlets cannot be split between sources.

Don't buy
Poor design for the hardware and browser interface. Browser interface was terrible and would hang randomly... the only way to reset was to unscrew the card, remove and put back in... A major inconvenience when you are not nearby. After 1 1/2 year the until totally lost power and will not work now. I would never buy a tripp lite product again.

Feature rich, but why so deep?
I've been looking all over the place for a PDU and UPS that would fit inside a 6U enclosure and had hopes that this would be a good fit. I managed to shoe-horn it in, only because the TrippLite SRW6U has adjustable rails, but the PDU is so heavy that it needs rear support, not included in that model and unavailable as an accessory. Hopefully TrippLite's support team will come through for me with a set of rails I've requested.I really only needed 4 or 5 outlets, which should make it much smaller, but couldn't find one like that.Pros:- Perhaps the only PDU model available that can mount in a 6U shallow wall-mount rack.- 8 Individually remote-switched outlets. (for a 6U rack, this is usually overkill, but better too many than too few).- Web management interface- Front outlets only (for a shallow enclosure, this is a must.- Front and rear rail mount ears included.Cons:- Heavy- Very deep for a PDU (~14.4")- Screws included for only one pair of rail-mount ears.
