Fit and Feel Very Good
I have an old pair of NB 730s (from before they completely redid that series), also in size 12 4E, and I've worn them into the ground because they fit well and feel good. And I wear all of my shoes with a pair of Spenco 3/4-length orthotics, which makes a difference. Now, these are obviously two different shoes. The 730s are mostly mesh with plastic, and made for cushion while running, and the 659s are cloth and leather, and made for support while doing something between street and trail walking. Also, two years of wear have stretched my 730s, and I just pulled these out of the box this morning. But while these 659s seem a bit snug out of the box, they also seem to be reasonably true to size both with and without the orthotics. We'll see how the leather and cloth shape out.But otherwise these are remarkably similar in overall feel. Plenty of room in the toe box, grippy outsole, supportive midsole, very low and gym-shoe like for something otherwise built to look like a hiker. The cushioning is definitely firmer, though how much of that is two years of wear in the old shoe is hard to tell. The outsole is narrower in the toe by half an inch inside, because it's straight, where in the runner it angles out for more grip surface. The toe box doesn't seem appreciably narrower, though being made of sterner stuff it presses against the widest point of my foot.I would definitely have left the store with these, if I had tried them on in a store. Time will tell if I can keep wearing them, or if the snug fit is too snug for me to wear comfortably all day.------UPDATE: Two days of wear, standing and walking both indoors and out, and the shoes are perfectly broken in. In some of my other shoes, when my feet swell at the end of the day, the sides are restrictive. These give me no such trouble. And with winter coming here in WI, I feel like I won't have trouble with thick or doubled socks, which is especially important with wide feet! The cushioning is very good for heel strikes. I don't feel like I'm losing any energy from my stride, especially in hard city walking. I'm obviously not doing any serious track or road running in these, but it's easy to break into a run if I need to, the shoes aren't too heavy-feeling, and they have very good heel-toe roll.Other notes: the inside of the shoe has a loose insole (as in "not glued down," not as in "it moves around"), which is a nice feature. I usually wear through the big toe area, and this means I can more easily replace the insole when that happens.

Sturdy and stylish sneaker
Great sneakers. They are very sturdy and seem like they can take a lot of abuse. The soles are thick and have a good, knobby tread that really grips the ground. Great for hiking. I use them as an everyday shoe, so don't feel that you can't wear these if you're not the hiking type. I do find that I slip a bit on smooth wet surfaces (such as ceramic tile floors) while wearing these, but it's not horrible. Just be aware that it happens and adjust your gait accordingly on these surfaces. I clean houses for a living so I walk on freshly mopped floors a lot and sometimes feel as if I'm about to slip, and will end up having to "baby step" while on them. Inconvenient, but I deal. I've had worse shoes that were completely unwearable and dangerous on wet floors, so these aren't too bad.Like all NB shoes, they fit a bit narrow.. if this is a concern, order a wider width to compensate for it. I feel my pinky toe squishing against the side but luckily no blisters have formed. Also, the shoe can seem somewhat hot inside, I believe because of the extra snugness of it. Get the wider width.I really like these sneakers. They have a great style. I like that the N isn't huge and contrasting on the side of the shoe. It's placed on the rear side, and is less conspicuous. The grey color is very cool, and I can wear any clothing colors with them without worrying that I'll look mismatched. My only two wishes are that that they make them more true to width (D width seems more like a C width), and make the out sole out of an anti-slip material.

they are holding up pretty well. I didn't much like the stock insoles
Have had these shoes for ~6 months, and I'd probably buy them again. I wear them every day, and while they are not pristine, they are holding up pretty well. I didn't much like the stock insoles, so I replaced them with some fancy heavy-duty Spenco ones, which I'd recommend. They're also not waterproof, not that they claim to be, so neverwet is not a bad addition.I did have the back pull-on strap on one of the shoes come loose, and one of the shoes had the sole look like it's coming away from the fabric a tiny bit in the front, but neither of these things have been of practical importance or significant cosmetic effect. I guess I wouldn't expect these to last several years, but they're pretty comfy and look/function nice.

New Balance still the best
New Balance has been my shoe of choice for years now. I wear their sneakers for all but business or dressier social occasions so picking a new shoe is important to me. I wear New Balance because of the breadth of lasts to choose from as well as the fact that you can get wide and wider shoes, not something that is easy with other brands. My most recent purchase is the MW 659 and now, three weeks into wearing them, I am very glad that they were my choice. The 659 is very light weight but doesn't seem to lack in structure or strength. I guess time will tell if they last as long as some of my other New Balance shoes but the initial impression is very positive. The 4E is wide enough so that my toes have freedom to wiggle. The shoe is attractive, the grey color somewhat neutral, the sole grips well. All around I'd give the shoe high marks.

geht so.
Sie sind bequem, halten allerdings nicht trocken. Also nicht geeignet für nass/kaltes Wetter. Zuder Haltbarkeit kann ich nichts sagen. Die Dingerwandern in die Bucht.
