Recieved these in late July of 2017. As I bagan spring pruning in 2018, the pin broake and shears are now useless. LOVED them until they broke!Update- received an email from the shipper and they have informed me that they are sending a replacement pair!! Whoo-hoo! As soon as I receive them, I will update this review with more stars(original review had only 1 star)!Within ONE WEEK of reaching out to the company, I received a replacement set of pruners! Incredibly impressed with response time and “no hassle” replacement!These pruners are terrific- SO GLAD the company is just as fantastic!

I purchased a pair of the Cates ratcheting pruners for my 85 yr old mom in 2017 the ratchet enabled her to spend time gardening something she loves and enjoys.So when she called me to say she needed me to fix them this spring ( missing nut and bolt.I sent an email to Family Matters and asked about the possibilities of them getting me the proper bolt.They responded that day, and informed me they would replace them with a new pair, two days latter my moms new Cates ratcheting pruning shears arrived as promised,I had to update my review because of the exemplary customer service Chris at Family Matters provided to me, I would like to thank them again, and my mom is extremely thankful as one can imagine.Thanks againSteve

These pruners cut through some fairly large (3/4) branches with their well-designed ratchet system. I used them for over 2 years on pretty much a daily basis as I spend a lot of time in my yards.Today, while finishing up a very large bush that needed cutting back to 12" from the ground, the ratchet pin came off. Couldn't find it so I couldn't tell if it had broken or just fell into the trash barrel.The good news is that I contacted the seller, Cates Garden, and within a couple of hours, they emailed me to let me know that they are mailing me a new pair of pruners ASAP.Now THAT'S good customer service!

I love these shears! They are well made, sharp blades that easily cut through the stems that need pruning. I usually buy new ratchet shears every spring. These are the best.I just purchased and returned 3 ratchet shears that arrived broken. The problems were with the ratchet and lock. This one is perfect. Sturdy and well made. I rarely write a review of my purchases, but this review may help people to buy the best shears 1st and not waste time with returns.

I was familiar with ratcheting pruners and bought them as a birthday gift for my sister. She has arthritis in her hands and has been having a very hard time keeping up with the bushes constantly sprouting all around the house. From the very first time that she used them, she was just amazed at how easy it was to cut the branches and new growth. The pressure stays on the pruner, not your hand!! And the sleek design feels good in your hand.I’m buying a pair for myself and will definitely get some for my friends!!

Agree these are wonderful pruners and I loved them. Agree with the other negative reviews that they broke the third time I used them for light duty work. The pin or rivet that attached the handle to the ratchet mechanism broke and was lost in the garden. I repaired them with a small screw and nut I had on hand, but my experience with this type of repair is that it won't last as the screw will work loose eventually. When it does, I will return them for a refund. Too bad, the concept is good..

These are sturdy and lightweight. I have a 30% loss of use in my hands and still want to enjoy gardening. These work wonders but they will grab your flesh and can pinch if you don't watch what you are doing. The tool does the work for you so you don't have to squeeze hard which is what I needed but watch the ratchet. I would probably look for a different style next time and give these a miss.

Having lost my other ratchet pruners somewhere in the garden, I ordered this pruner ... perhaps it just takes getting used to a slightly different hand tool, and I need to perhaps have them sharpened, as they are not as easy to use as the other ones. But - ratchet pruners are the best ... one can lob off quite a wholesome branch with one hand and there is no need to switch to a larger gardening tool!

They actually work. I can cut things up to 3/4" with one hand with ease thanks to the ratcheting function. I purchased these specifically to cut branches down to fit in to my camping wood stove. It works awesome. It was very hard to break thick branches short enough, but now, any size, no problem at all.

It is just as advertised. I needed to trim some tree branches & plant prunings. These shears cut with ease. My arthritic fingers are thankful! Bought the green ones & would definitely re-order if the need arose..... Thank you for a great product.

This item doesn't cut all that well. It may be fine for certain things, but definitely not for rose bushes.It tears more than it cuts, and the ratchet stopped working after the first week.I have osteoarthritis so thought this would be better than previous cutters I have used, but it definitely isn't and is not worth the higher price. Very disappointed in it.

Great tool that is really sharp. The ratchet feature is so easy to use, and makes cutting thick branches really easy. I love the hidden sponge to oil the blade after each use.

These are the best pair of pruning shears I have ever owned. The ratcheting feature gives the extra power needed to cut through bigger branches while still allowing me to maintain control. I would highly recommend these shears to anyone who has to do serious pruning.
